Hello, I was just wondering what people thought about being abel to put the baron in a transport these days in a DE list.

It could be a fine way to give your incubi or grotesques assault grenades. An archon might be better, but the baron is sutch a good allround HQ, and often quite popular. Do the new 6th edition rules open up any reasanable tactics for him?

Fairly certain you can't embark on a transport with the baron.

Only Infantry rnodels can embark upon Transports (this does
not include Jump or Jet Pack Infantry), unless specifically stated
otherwise. Some larger Infantry models count as more than one
model for the pu{poses of Transport Capacity, and this will be
specified in the model's rules.[/b]

I thought jump infantry could embark into vehicles, but they just had the "bulky" USR. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Baronyu is correct in his quote of the transport rules. However, read the rules for Jump Infantry.

BRB pg47: "Unlike most other unit type categories, 'Jump' is not a classification in and of itself..... Jump units therefore share two sets of rules, the Jump unit rules and those of their base type. Jump Infantry would, for example, follow the rules for Jump units and Infantry"

That clearly states that "Jump" is not a classified unit type by itself but that they follow the rules for Infantry as well.

So yes, Jump units may embark in transports as they follow the rules for Infantry.

Just bear in mind that as he's Bulky he takes 2 spaces in a transport.

Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:

Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.

Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s.

No stick at you Baronyu, just pointing it out!

Very true BnS, but the good thing is that you can still run 4 Grotesques in a Raider with him. And i dont see people running 8-10 man incubi squads so hopefully you wouldnt have to worry about that!

OK. So where does that leave us?

Grotesques or Incubi could both benefit from the barron. Is it a good alternative to the beastpacks?

Compared with Archon + Haemy + Grotesques, or other similar setup, you're missing one pain token for the charge, the possibly-good huskblade hunting on archon, the extra liquifier from haemy, and a haemy for absorbing challenge if you don't wanna use your archon/aberration for it, on the other hand, cheaper unit with hit and run! Also, if you decide to go Urien instead of haemy in that set up, baron will make it cheaper, you can use the father of pain thing to get the 2nd token on the grotesques, you'd still be missing the power weapon, but least you'd have FC with Baron, and Urien can give another non-coven(if any) unit their PT by joining them.

About the same deal with incubi, but even harder to get 2 PTs.

As for how they will work on the field, then..hmm... do some field tests yourself!

@SCP Yeeman
No offense taken, good news for me anyway!

If running Grotesques I usually go big or go home which means 7+ Grotesques in a squad. Then, I run Urien for the Str 6 effect. Can take on anything in CC and Urien is a challenge machine.

However, for the Baron, i would put him with Incubi. Hit and Run is nice on them, but almost never needed because they either wipe the unit out or die themselves, but sometimes you never know. Pain tokens aren't needed either on them I think because of their fragile nature. 3+ is good, T3 is terrible. Most opponents who know Incubi will hide in cover and wait for the Incubi to come to them. With the Baron, that is a dumb thing to do.

the Baron as a whole gives an army-wide effect and multiple unit-wide effects. Bar-None, I think he is the best 105 points in the game.

Page 78: "Only Infantry models can embark upon Transports (this does not include Jump or Jet Pack Infantry), unless specifically stated otherwise".

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
