So, about a million years ago I bought the Armageddon Steel Legion Army Box at my local hobby shop. I assembled and based all 60-or-so figs, arranged them carefully into squads, and got them primed. Then, before I could get started on doing any painting I broke up with my girlfriend and wound up putting these figs back in boxes. They languished in storage for years.

A little while ago I dug them out.

The original list/rationale has been lost, but with the new Grey Knights codex with its list for Inquisitors and their henchmen I have a new idea.

This old SOB fig will be my Inquisitor:

Her retinue of henchmen will include some more Necromunda Gangers, like these Van Saars as Warrior Acolytes:

The IG Commander will be Col Straken:

The more I look at it, the more I hate this model. It's really boring.

Another part of the army will be this Penal Squad of Necromunda Scavvies, led by a Van Saar Juve:

And the rest of the henchmen will be similarly pulled from the ranks of Necromunda Hive and some fantasy Empire figs...I am working on some more backstory, but it will be heavy on the Necromunda mythos... I really want to figure out a way to include Yarrick...

I mean, I already converted him to have the mask...

I love what you've done with Yarrick, and if you can deal with metal, GW sells decent Steel Legion models

I wasn't sure if GWQ still sold them, but I don't need a full squad. My concept for this is that survivors of a battle have been "requisitioned" by Commissar Svetlana to aid her in her own missions...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I took a break from the mass-production line this morning to do some modeling and converting. So much fun. I built some more figs for the Henchmen:

Death Cult Assassins:

The Crusader and Mystic figs:

Arco-flagellants:

Daemonhost and Servo-skulls:

Now I need to think about colors...

Back to the grind.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I added some more pics to the Gallery, mostly done. I need to flock the bases and then do a few little touch-ups. Oh, and redo the Standard Bearer. Ugh.

Update on painting:

The whole group WIP, above, the only ones not shown are the Van Saar gangers/Warrior Acolytes that are already done.

This is the Daemonhost:

She is coming along nicely, but I am having a hell of a time with her eyes. This pic makes it look like she's been crying...

I really like how the Crusader is coming along, this pic doesn't do it justice:

At the end of today's painting session I may take them outside for photos to get better light.

OK! The painting is done!! All of the Steel Legion and the Henchmen, you can check them out in the Gallery. I just dug out my Necromunda rule book to research into the background for writing up some fluff. I was conflating Necromunda with Armageddon, thinking the former was just a hive on the latter (it's been almost ten years...) so the back story has to evolve a little, or they become Necromunda Ash Warriors of some kind.

Stay tuned

Update: 9 Dec 2012: It's never really done, is it?

Got an idea to turn some WFB Empire Militia dudes into Commissars:

I didn't like how the jackets made them look so uniform, so the other 15 models will become archers, while these become my most recent graduates of the Schola. I will add some GS to make a collar, lapels, peak for his hat, etc. I may have to give a couple of them airmasks to match the Steel Legion dudes. This is just a mock-up, I am gonna trim that flash and mold lines, etc.

Thoughts?

Feb Update to all Plogs:

My Lovely Bride has been offered a new job! A "promotion" to the next level up in her field, with a nice, fat raise. So, of course, this means that we are moving. It's only a couple of hours away, still in NH, but it means that we have to pack everything up and relocate...

Therefore, all modeling and painting is going to be on hold for a while, until we get settled in to a new place. I am going to be bringing a "portable" version of my workshop to the hotel where we will be staying until we find a home, so there may be some occasional updates.

In the meantime, I am going to be working on some 40k and Fantasy scenarios, missions and maybe even a podcast. Is that something anyone would be interested in tuning in to?

Please leave a reply and let me know. Thanks!

It's been a while since I posted here, but wanted to share that the entire Tallarn contingent of my IG army is now complete:

June is "tank-a-palooza", so I will be working on assembling and/or priming or detailing all of the vehicles that accompany this army, and the Steel Legion:

3 Basilisks
4 LRBTs
14 Chimeras (or "counts as" models)
6 Sentinels (and 3 more "counts as" Sentinels)
1 scratch-built Crassus
1 Baneblade
and a Manticore in a pear tree

Spoiler:

I am going to give all of the vehicles a cohesive paint/camo scheme and do some weathering. All of the WIP pics will be in the Armor Gallery http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-64081-29002_Armor%20WIP.html

Looking forward to your C&C.

What did you use for your chimeras?

The "counts as" Chimeras are these OOP Kamodos from DLD

http://www.paintingclinic.com/productreviews/kamodo.htm

And I have two 1/35th scale German WWII "Scout Cars" like this:
Sd Kfz 222

http://misc.kitreview.com/armourreviews/images/sdkfz222_large.jpg

and I forgot about the Chimera/Hydra convertible, so I guess that makes 15...

Since all of my Tallarn figs are assembled and painted, I am working on some "Special Forces" units that I can use in Kill Team games and 'regular' games. The inspiration for this team in particular comes from my recent re-reading of Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers. The descriptions and pictures of how the paratroopers were loaded up for going into Normandy made me want to create a small unit that looked like they were ready for anything, also I had been thinking about Engineer/Demolition units and how they might be constructed.

This unit is fully kitted out, entrenching tools, knives, grenades, backpacks stuffed with gear, you name it.

I know that Special Weapon teams can't take a Vox, but it seemed to me that a team like this would have one for communicating back to HQ. In game terms this is simply 2 x Flamers and a Demo Charge.

There are a ton of great images for references, I especially like this one:

Here is the Team Leader closeup, (and, yes, I see the mold line on the lasgun, the camera reveals what my 40-something eyes cannot detect...)

The Baneblade kit comes with a standing officer of some sort, with a wide assortment of heads and arm choices. I mixed and matched with the Shock Troops box, added an arm with a hawk I found on an auction site, and came up with this (he will be 'counts as' pretty much anything I need, perhaps even Coteaz...)

Thanks for watching, C&C welcome.

Lovely horde army and even better Chimeras count as pity they are OOP.

I started using half tracks for Chimeras count as, but stopped after just one when I decided I didn't want to mech up my IG.
