Hey Dakka!

This is my Alpha Legion-painter version of Anarkus (it is Anarkus right?) the champion of the Cultist Sect Anarkus. I'm not the greatest painter, I don't have any major skill but Ivain enough that I wouldn't say I was dreadful Here he is then. The only thing in this picture not complete is the head, I forgot to wash it but I have just done it so no worries. I am also unsure how to make the chaos star branded into his chest show up more, maybe a 50/50 mix of the skin and a red? Opinions on him overall?

Anyone else think borderlands when they see the shot-gun?

I like it
Although I'd tone down the green just a tad, then use the colour you have for a slight edge highlight on the bits next to the blue.

But overall, looks good

Haha you know I would never have thought of it as that.

Yeh, the green was first Skarsnik Green then I layered on Moot Green and glazed it with Waywatcher Green, very bright yes

Thanks.

Maybe a wash to bring out some definition in the skin. Might help to "pop" out the Chaos star on his chest.

As a huge Borderlands 2 player/ fan, the gun looks awesome.

You know I actually have put a wash on. I put a wash of Ogryn Flesh over Tallarn Flesh (the old paints) because that was all I had but it didn't have that big an affect.

I haven't got Borderlands 2 yet but I has a sneak peek at a friends house and blimey it looks great. It's a great compliment but I actually can't see it, why does it look so Borderlands-y?

Haha yeh, you have inspired me. His squad will now be the Carnivale Despair and he will be known as The Joker. Thanks!

I like the model, but the face looks a bit plain. Get some agrax earthshade and slop it over him

It's Tetchvar, actually - Anarkus is the one with the axe.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

Yeh I don't quite remember if I may have mentioned it or not but at the time of taking the picture I forgot to wash the face he's all washed now and I think it looks better.

Ah yes sorry I realised that yesterday when I played my first game of 6th and technically my first game of 40k. A DRAW! Although my army was all but wiped out to one man, due to incredibly INCREDIBLY bad luck and bad tactics, our objective is complete. Maybe the Alpha Legion purposely sacrificed it's men? The plot thickens.....

@ crimsonfist832 -

I'll second the comments regarding another wash - it could be the flash, or it could be that the "tone" of the wash is just too light. Try a darker wash, then touch-up with the base paint color.

Nice scheme!

Re: the "Borderlands" comment - it's simply because the gun has color on it! You don't see too many blue shotguns (at least not where I'm from).

Hmm yeh alright then, I guess I can add on another wash of Ogryn Flesh. Any tips on bringing out that star? Not sure whether to wash it in red afterwards or make it a 50:50 mix of the flesh and a red.

Thanks on the scheme. I am warming up to this purple-hued blue quite a lot now, it looks nice with the snow base.

Ah yeh, now I see. The shotty is blue because I got a little inspiration from the cover of Legion in the fact that the gun's casing is painted the same colour as the armour plates, hence the blue gun all the other guns like the bolters and such are also blue, or going to be glue.

You know I'm definitely going to be adding another coat of Ogryn Flesh then, the people demand it! Thanks!

Thanks an awful, AWFUL lot Dakka! You guys have been amazingly constructive and kind on your-part. Like I said in my OP I'm most certainly not a good painter, not at all! and at the rate he's going my younger brother seems to be better than me but, I hold faith enough to know with time you can only improve and hopefully I will. I haven't actually painted for a year now and as always I have to get back into the process but even before that year I was never good, heck when I first started the hobby I actually relied on my mother to paint that was just how bad my confidence was. I am not one for belief in ones personal skills and although I have people say I'm 'good' as they put it, those people are close friends and family and you can't really rely on them as they're probably being intentionally nice. So, after my ramble where I run off on a tangent like a sad-sap I would like to say thanks for all the nice compliments.

Model looks good.

Maybe hit the star with the blue or green from the clothing to tie it all together.

That's a nice idea actually. I always imagined it being reddish though because I imagined the Alpha Legion would just brand his chest with the symbol.

I just finished mine of this guy, and hit the scar on the chest with a 55/45ish mix of gore red/skull white, just a touch more red than pink, and it turned out rather well. don't wanna hijack your thread so I won't post it.

Have you thought about using dwarf flesh on the star? Or whatever the new equivalent is, then elf flesh (or again, whatever tyhe new one is) as a slight highlight, with a flesh wash ONLY on the star?

Did that to a scar on a chaplain model I did for a friend, and it came out pretty well.

To be frank I have no idea what the new paint is, there's so many I don't have any clue. Might try that, never thought of it if I'm honest.

Right just finished up a second Cultist, yes I am an extremely slow painter but between school, homework, and my scouring of Dakka I think it might be understandable

Picture 3: Here we have my three Cultists. To the left we have the champion, to the centre my newly painted autogun-wielder, and to the right the one I am working on. The champion features a washed face and a second wash of Ogryn Flesh, I think it's better now. The one on the right however, I'm not all that settled on him. I wanted green somewhere for the Alpha Legion in him, but that little green on the face isn't enough. But, all that green might be overpowering when I brighten it up and glaze it. Opinions on what colour to use? Should I stick with it or change it for blue or grey?
