I wanted to have a Librarian in Terminator armor, a storm shield, and a force axe, but didn't want to start with GW model as it looked too off to me. First of all, I don't like using non-helmeted models if I can help it, and secondly I wanted to have a go at making a real centerpiece for my army. The main components are here so far, but there's more details I want to add, specifically the horned skull motif found on Librarians. I have some greenstuff molds, but the detail is lacking and they're coming out slightly warped. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to add in more detail work? There are only 3 parts I have yet to put on the model: Pre-Heresy shoulder pads, the robed tabard from the GK Terminator kit, and a regular closed book bit. I'll put those bits on when they arrive, except for the book which will be put in place only after painting. The head is currently not glued either.

Update: got some work done. Heresy Era shoulder pads are not in yet, but everything else is. This is my first time using the wet blending technique, and I think my technique is great, but where I'm applying it as well as my color choice is wrong. If anyone has any tips that would be great. The helmet is going to be redone with greenstuff making it round again. I might just strip the whole model. We'll see.

What colors are you using for your wet blending to get your highlights and shadows?
One of the mistakes I made early on was to take my base color and just add white to lighten it up and black to darken it.

That mold line running down his arm is killing your hard work... there is no excuse for not cleaning that kind of stuff up, it takes a a few minutes with a hobby knife and makes the model look much better.

I did clean that mold line. The only place where it's visible is where I haven't painted yet (and the shoulders which will be covered). what you're seeing on the part that I have painted is where one paint was blended into another. Edit: I coulda sworn I did. It looks like it on the photo, and now that I look at it, it's on the model too. But there's no bump or anything to smooth out.
There are 3 different blues here. One is called "Denim Blue," (the main blue you see) the other is "Blue Bayou" (the majority of the wet blending like on the arm and everywhere except the shoulder pads), and "Ocean Reef Blue" which is the highlights and the blended paint on the top of the shoulder pads. The paints are Delta's Ceramcoat line.

I personally think the dark blending looks ok. It might be the lighting, but it seems like the highlights are a bit washed out and appear desaturated.
I don't think I have every used actual shades of the same color to do my highlights. For a color like blue I would use a very light cream/ivory color to slowly blend into the highlights. It seems like that brightens up the colors, but it also adds warmth to the highlights instead of making them seem to just become less saturated than the main color.
The better painters might have better answers for you though.
