The red color of their armor should probably be darker but i guess they look just fine as they are...

Yeah I know... I built these minis quite a long time ago and I wasn't aware about that back then. I will eventually exchange it for another icon or replace the whole miniature someday though. I'm glad you liked them anyway!

It's just Merchite Red with red ink covering it, some old black ink in the recesses and blood red on the edges as a highlight. Pretty simple!

I'm pretty sure you can achieve similar results using the new paints. Try using Khorne red as a base and Evil Sunz Scarlet for the highlights for example (I don't own them but they look like the closest match).

Yeah, it's pretty nice. But Requiem was right about the fact that it doesn't fit the chapter at all... I'm considering changing it for the big banner the defiler comes with. That would probably look great.

To get that darker red I use a Cream Coat 'Barn Red'. They are available at craft stores such as Michaels. These paints never dry up and you get same color painting for each unit no matter how long you wait between units.

I guess thats the perfect kind of red color for the Word Bearers, but I'll stick to Merchite Red as long as it lasts.

I wouldn't stress the khorne banner too much. The word bearers venerate all the gods, just not any one exclusively as a whole army. I'm sure they have some units who dedicate themselves to khrone, as well as tzeentch sorcerers etc. I play word bearers and have a unit of beserkers in my army and thats how I figure it fluff wise. Just make sure you give the unit the mark of khorne and there should be no confusion on the tabletop. Great red color by the way. I had trouble deciding on a red when I started as they have been depicted in everything from a deep, almost brown red, to a bright blood red by various GW publications. I settled on a mid tone red much like yours in the end.

I love the melted wax/blood on the banner. Very very cool!

I know about the fact that they can venerate specific gods. Actually, I've got a whole 7 man plague marine squad painted as if it was formed by actual Word Bearers (like the one in my avatar). I'm still not fond about the Khorne banner though. It looks pretty nice but it doesn't fit the general appearance of the unit or it's combat style at all...

I've checked out your word bearers BTW and their red color fits the chapter colors perfectly. They look really nice!

Thanks! I might change it soon for another banner that's more fitting to the squad though.

I just added some Plague Marines. They're supposed to be Word Bearers that worship Nurgle specifically. Hope you like them!
