Recently I bought a decent necron army from my friend, worth at least 2000 points which I will list below. Models are largely complete, with a bit of work still to be done. I have included pictures, and would like to know what you think of the current paint scheme, and if you have any suggestions on where to go next.

2 Monoliths - 400 pts
6 Destroyers - 240 pts
12 Canoptek Scarabs - 180 pts with enough pieces to make an extra 5
C'Tan Shard (Nightbringer) - 185 pts base value
55 Necron Warriors - 715 pts
Destroyer Lord - 125 pts
Necron Lord - 35 pts
2 FW Tomb Stalkers - 390 pts

on top of this I have
5 Canoptek Scarabs
4 Destroyers - mostly broken...
20 Necron Warriors





This friend of mine painted using a lot of Mithril Silver, whereas I prefer to use Boltgun Metal, what do you think looks better on necrons?
I'm thinking of trying a sort of blue, bleach bone, black look on the second monolith but not sure about how that would fit with the greed rods/crystal, so any tips or ideas?
From here, I was thinking of buying 2 Arks, 2 Scythes, 2-5 Crypteks, Illuminor Szeras and/or Imotekh the Stormlord, but money is limited. Yes or No? Anything else I should consider?

I was in same position as you a while back.

Firstly I would get the new codex, if you dont already?
Have a look at see what models look cool to you... Deathmarks, or flyers, or some of the elite infantary. Or one of the named characters? (Imotekh is best tekh).

You could run a foot phalanx quite well, given the amount of warriors you have.
To improve the army in terms of competitivenes, one thing that would be good is to buy a few more necron lords and/or some crypteks. These are really useful for things like putting res-orbs in your 20man warrior squads.

Yes, the models were all used in 5th but i have had a few games before, proxying with 6th ed rules, and I have the latest codex. I have tried out most units once now, but obviously that only gives you a taster.
I will likely buy Imotekh at some point, but i think i should try out the D Lord with slogging warriors, apparently he does a good job, especially with some wargear i believe he can get the squad to re-roll 1s?

Doom Scythes feel a little overpowered, but I'm keen for one or two. And as i said, a few arks. I found a video showing doomsday/ghost ark switch using magnets etc which looks good:

I now have around 75 warriors, more than I'm likely to use in 1000-3000 point games, so I was wondering if anyone knows of decent conversions that can be done with warriors?
Deathmarks and Immortals would be handy if i could get them for cheaper.. 5 to a box isnt great, and same goes for the price of crypteks.

On a different note, I would like to know if there's anywhere that sells different coloured rods for gauss weapons, as well as the crystals in monoliths. If sold in New Zealand, even better.

As a side note, the paint scheme is exactly what I've been trying to get my Necrons to look like? Do you have a list of the paints used on these?

the main colour scheme is mithril silver, washed badab black, blood red plates with gloss and scorpian green. some bits of boltgun metal used too which i prefer the look of. At one stage a large batch of warriors were painted with some rust, but i hope that gives you the general idea (:
