hey Dakka...

here is my latest commission...
i was asked to paint Rex as a Grey Knight, which was fun since i've not seen him in this scheme before...

here's the link if you care to vote: http://www.coolminiornot.com/319205

i tried to refine the sword a bit over my previous attempts...
hopefully i will do even better on the next blade...

i had fun playing with the glow from inside his gorget, shining on his face...
unfortunately, the white only shows from above...
this is an experiment for a really cool Horus mini i have coming up, with the red glow on his face, so this was a good trial run...
lots more to learn still...

thanks for looking...
i hope you like him...

Edit: here are some brighter pics that show off the OSL and metals a little better...

The gold is brilliant. Though I'm not quite sure about the blue glow on his face. It looks a bit misplaced and its a bit obscure where exactly the light is coming from.

thanks, guys...
glad this guy is getting a good reception...

i'll get one more round of pics before this guy goes out...
these are not quite bright enough, as the pure white of the OSL is not quite showing...
i'll get some detail shots in the next round, as well...

@Darth Bob: i'll get a top-down shot to show the white light down in his collar...

@:Jarl Marius: i'm not sure how many hours i put into this guy...
i know it was too many, but i charge by the piece, not by the hour...

thanks again...

cheers

So how much would a Model cost? Say if I wanted the same model in the same colours?

thanks for asking, Marthike...
unfortunately, i'm no longer taking commissions...
i have a Draigo/Calgar conversion on the table, and then i'm out...
living in a little Mexican village makes it hard to get packages sent, and running my surf shop takes priority, timewise...
so, commissions are taking way too long to finish...
rather than make the customer wait, i will just be selling painted minis instead of taking commissions...

Sword is amazing!

Your skill in painting has made a very 'busy' looking model really pleasant to look at, nice work.

Oh man, oh boy. This is the standard every FW miniatures should be painted to. I love the OSL on the mask and the tone of the cloth and armour.

Beautiful model. How on earth did you achieve that beautiful gold effect? Also, the silver if you are feeling generous!

thanks, WingWong...

the metals are all about Vallejo Air paints...
smoothest acrylics i've ever used...

this gold is dirty, so i used a lot of Vallejo Smoke for the washes...
i also use P3 Sanguine Base to redden things up...

so, it would be a base of P3 Battlefield Brown...
1-1 mix of Battlefield and P3 Rhulic gold...
a layer of pure Rhulic...
1-1 mix of Rhulic and Vallejo Air Gold...

this builds up a nice base...
them i shade with a wash of P3 Sanguine base...
in this case i also used a wash of Vallejo Smoke for darker, browner, shadows...
i finish with a touch-up layer of pure VA Gold...

final highlights are pure Vallejo Air Aluminium...

the silver is the same idea, using Matte color washes to bring more life to the metal...
i start from a base of P3 Pig Iron...
the next layer is GW Boltgun Metal...
after that i shade with a wash of P3 Exile Blue...
i clean this up with Boltgun...
curves are brought out with a 1-1 mix of Boltgun and VA aluminium...
next a wash of P3 Arcane Blue (the same color i used for the OSL) goes all over the silver to give that Grey Knight sheen...
final highlights are pure VA Aluminium...

simple...
