hello, well I've only painted a few yellow things recently , but ill give it a shot any way using up to date GW paints
just a warning, yellow is notoriusly hard to paint with

I. PRIMING
1. prime white, works so much better with yellow
2. or if you have army painter, they have a yellow primer lol

II. BASING
1. just cover the entire model with Averland Sunset, its the base for yellow, and because they way its so thick, it is a great way to start (but for the longest time people started with a brown base, and that works too)
2. choose what parts are going to be red (usually the sholder pad rims n like one of the hands, n the wings/skulls. whatever) n base them with Mephiston Red for a nice bright red to start
3. then go over things that you want black with Abaddon Black like the back of the knees n stuff
4. Leadbelcher for metal stuff.
5. touch up yellow (DO NOT SKIP THIS) yellow has a habit of letting alto of color show through it. so touch ups now are the best n easiest way

III. LAYERS
1. next take ether Yriel Yellow or Flash Gitz Yellow depending on how bright you want the yellow to be (flash gitz is the light color) and apply it to the razed parts of the model, staying away from recesses and just giving some depth to the color
2. for the reds go with Evil Sunz Scarlet and sort of a heavy dry brush on the wings n what not, don't go crazy but do what you think is right
3. don't worry about the black just yet, just make shur its touched up n clean
4. for the metal id go with Ironbreaker repeating from above

IV. WASHING
1. this is the tricky part. you want to wash all the parts, but you don't want to mix/put washes on other colors, so what you have to do is not just slobber the stuff on but apply just enough that it will shade n not get on stuff you don't want
any way starting with the yellow go with the Casandora Yellow wash all over, i guess you can use Null Oil but to me that just looks like messy crap for yellow. but that's just me
2. for the red you can go with Carroburg Crimson but that can get on the yellow... n thats just no good, so be really cairfull if you go that way, or Null Oil is a bit safer, if it gets on the yellow it wont pop out as much.
3. the back and metal can have Null Oil.. duh lol

V. highlights
1. dry bushing hear and there (on edges or where you want sunlight to hit), use Hexos Palesun, but don't over do it lol
2. Kindleflame dry brush is good, if use carefully, or a highlight of Wild Rider Red works
3. okay on the black, gently use a light dry brush of Longbeard Grey to make them pop just a bit
4. then on the metals go with Runefang Steel on the edges or a dry brushing of Necron Compound

other things to do would be the eyes but i don't know how you want those (color wise) and then the little purity seals things or whatever, just go wit Khorn red on the dot thing and highlight with Wazdakka Red
then the paper thing just go with what you want, bone colors work well, n add little black or gold scribbles on them to add that little dab of detail.

Just keep in mind that yellow is a huge pain in the ass till you get a system down that you like, so try it diffrent ways, like painting and doing all the yellow stuff from basing to highlights first. or do the yellow last, what ever works. just have fun

heres how i do mine as i like it to look a more muted tone rather than a plastic colour

base coat the model black, i never use white as this makes bright colours look like they are plastics and black makes everything else easy to paint

i paint all other areas on my models bettor i do my yellow as i don't want to ruin it painting a darker colour

so on with the yellow, base the area with calthan brown. go over this with tausept ocher, leaving a little calthan in the resesses. next give the whole area a coat of ogyrin flesh.

when thats completely dry go other again with tausept leaving a little of the washed tausept showing, finally a layer of islyan darksun to finish again leaving a bit of tausept showing this is far as i go with mine but to highlite i would mix in a little bleached bone

hope this helps i havent used the new paints yet but im sure if you ask at your local store they will say what the colours are in the new range also you can see how it looks on my skaven if you look on my blog

I allow myself to answer this in norwegian:
Veit ikke helt hvor du bor, men bor du i naerheten av en storby tar du deg en tur paa outland, ligger i kirkegata i oslo (nummer 24 husker jeg ikke helt feil) og kjoep en gul Army Painter primer...
En annen ganske god vei aa male Imperial Fists paa er aa prime dem hvite, saa legger du paa en sepia wash, og bygger opp med gul derfra...
eller kan du kjoepe en gul base farge fra GW

Thanks for quick reply. I will try both as soon as I get my hands on the paint and models.

Im planning to get the yellow part first. And then use precision tape on the bits and pices im not going to paint yellow. Afterwards I will use it the other way around.

This will take time but im not doing a whole lot of models.

Only 20 tactical marines 5 storm shield termies Lysander and two rhinos.

Thanks again I will post some pics if I get a camera this Christmas.

My tecnique for purity seals will be White edges on the seal. Then add a dark red in the middels and a light red over the white part. Makes it look like a ancient wax seal.

For the eyes I will use a bit off the same really. Making a lighter area in the middel with white and partialy over paint it with light red and a darker red on both sides. Maybe, just maybe I will try a hint off red glow around the eyes. Will see how that turns out.

Derby, UK.

i dont do Imperial Fists myself but did paint some yellow bits ona base that i think came out ok:

Started with a coat of black spray 9just a generic one from halfords).

Then a slightly watered down coat of Averland Sunset (is that the new "Base" yellow?).

Once that was done i did a coupel of thin coats of badmoon yellow (old GW paint - i've had the pot for years).

Then a watered down wash of Devlan Mud to finish.

Well I paint up BadMoonz Orks, and I think my current method for yellow would work rather nicely on Imperial Fists. My camera blew up, but I got a replacement for the time being and I was planning on doing a rust tutorial, so I can just do both and show you how to do nice looking yellows

Here's how I am doing mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC_2yisJIlg

Instead you could:

Undercoat white
Basecoat Averland Sunset
Line armour recesses with Agrax Earthshade
Line highlight armour with Dorn Yellow (edge paint) or Screaming Skull.
Glaze with Lamentors Yellow.

This should achieve more or less the same effect

Hope this helps,

Tom

there are tons of ways to create something that you like... i personally dont like that uberbright yellow so i kind of basecoat my mini in beastly brown and then use a yellow with a little bit of bone white mixed into it and layer that onto the brown... edge highlights can be made with pure bone color...

I used most of the steps detailed here, I liked it but I believe I screwed the painting. First with the Army Painter - Demonic Yellow (I don't like this product, maybe I didn't used it correctly). Anyways, I know this post is really old but any tips on layering and washing would be really apreciated. This is the example of a couple of models the one with the melta was really clogged with the army painter and the other one was fine...for the first batch assembled and painted ever.
