So, if your anything like me, you also lamented when Games Workshop ditched their best (and perhaps only usable) paints...the hallowed Washes. I have been lost for a while now, looking for replacements to my staple washes: Gryphonne Sepia, Devlan Mud, & Badab Black. I tried the new Citedel Shades with high-hopes....but while they do shade, thats all they do. They dont provide the same coverage or overall warm tones that can be gotten from the old washes (especially from Gryhonne Sepia).

Well, i can tell you, i have fallen in love with the Army Painter brand inks. They provide the same coverage and nearly the same colors as the old Washes did (they are perhaps a little thicker, but its simple to add a couple drops of water). I have just tested them on several models, and i love them. I can once again get nice, dirty Ork metals with 'devlan' and 'badab' washes, and get a nice, warm, final shade on my models with a good sepia.

For those who are interested:

Citedel=======Army Painter
Gryphone=====Soft Tone ink
Devlan=======Strong Tone ink
Badab=======Dark Tone ink

Sorry i dont have any pics for you guys yet. Also hope this isnt old news, and that this proves helpful to you guys

EDIT:
Thought a link to the Army Painter website might prove useful too

I think you might be looking for glazes, rather than shades/inks to add that extra color and warmth. I actually think Citadel is pretty good, but their paint pots are so terrible I will probably be switching to Army Painter or Vallejo for the dropper bottles next time I buy paint.

Even so, Army Painter inks are really good. They are basically thinner, better versions of their dip cans. The only problem is that they are quite glossy and only come in that black and brown, but if you varnish your models it won't matter.

I really like the Dark Tone, but the Soft tone looked a little weird after drying to me. I tried them both on different legs of the same model and the Soft Tone came out looking chalky afterwards.

I like the inks and have had no problems with them. I use the soft tone on the yellow for my bad moons with no chalking

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Not really news, to me, but it's always nice to hear another positive testimonial, as my stores of old GW washes are starting to run low and the LGS has long since been bought out (the washes were some of the first to go, sadly but understandably) and I'll be looking for alternatives, soon enough. If only they offered a replacement for Thrakka Green, as well...
