got inspired to make a huge fortress monastary for my imperial fists. this thing will combine multiple kits, including aegis lines, bastions, fortress of redemptions, and a few other things. in any case, this is a rather massive undertaking, and i decided a blog will keep me sane.
this whole project was inspired by the monolith-icon blood angels FoR - available on their website. http://www.monolith-icon.eu/store/
while inspired by, i am making a few changes and adaptations to the design, including a more elaborate gatehouse, 2 of the towers, and MOAR weapons!
so far ive managed to get some basic paint on the bunker annexs, a walkway and assemble the first bastion section. i still have to go in and do the details and highlights, but unfortunitly my detial brush got abducted by my kids, and i need some new ones. while im waiting for my brush shipment, im just going to build and whatnot.
for rules: (these are experimental and open to discussion and will most likley be changed)
points cost: 550 + upgrades
its going to count as a multiple part building, with each "section" treated as a large building. all armor values will be 14.
it has normal automated fire BS, and is equipped with the following weapons and special rules
- 2 twin linked icarus lazcannons
- 2 fraggstormm missile silos
- 2 lazcannons
- 12 heavy bolters
- 2 quad guns.
- 1 "utility" launcher
it can upgrade the missile silos for krakkstorm missiles at 25pts each
it can also take a single deathstrike missile platform (same as the IG tank) for 75pts.
special rules:
- command bunker: if an HQ slot model is inside the command bunker with at least 5 other models in the squad, they can "man the guns" by remote. this allows all the weapons in the fortress to be controlled from the command bunker via its computer interlink system. there is no need to physically man each emplaced weapon. however:
the squad controlling the command bunker may not use any of its own weapons, special rules or abilities while controlling the fortress guns. however, the special rules for each weapon remain the same.
- field generators: - the fortress is equipped with a smaller version of void shields. this allows it to provide some measure of additonal defence. the field provides the fortress with a measure of defense against ranged attacks. that are 12" or more away. however, it can only take so much punishment before the emitters overload and fail. treat the fortress as having 2 void shields. (4+ invun w/ 2 hp) at the start of each turn, instead of firing a weapon, roll a dice. (for each weapon not fired) on a 6+ one of the void shields regenerates. the shields have no effect on ranged attacks from 11" or less. additonally, due to the nature of the field, any psyker attempting to use a psychic power inside the fortress will suffer a perils attack on any roll of a double, in additon to the other rules. finally, any structure collapse, or weapon destroyed result on any of the fortressess buildings has a chance to create a powersurge backlash. after resolving the damage noted above, roll a further dice: on a 5+ the field emmiters are damaged and will be unable to recharge next turn.
so... thoughts?

its for my pre heresey imp fist army. for its exact background, im not sure. i imagine it would have been something they built on one of their core worlds or something. im still learning about the space marine history in general, and pre heresey stuff is also on the learning docket. ill post more on the background once i have that sorted out.

ok managed to do some more work on this beast.
i finished painting one of the massive towers, and the lazcannon turret for one of the bunkers. the bunker and walkway still need some final touchups, but the bunker is progressing nicley.

But seriously, good painting! Excited to see the full thing.
One last thing though, what exactly is a "utility launcher"? It just puts me in mind of a utility belt haha!

im not sure yet... i had an idea for it to launch off smoke canisters that provide an area of "smoke" and anything in or behind it gets 4+ cover... but not sure how that would work lol.
and yes.... it IS yellow. its for my imperial fists, and will eventually also have a bunch of fist icons and flags.

Ambitious project to say the least.
It might be hard to get a consistent look using yellow as you primary color. Terrain that big might be better to assemble prime and air brush or spray paint your primary color. Details are especially dangerous because it later easy to get overwhelmed if your not careful. All the skulls and Aquilas that are on the GW kits will drive you insane.
The beat terrain makers will tell you to pick out a few details and focus your energy on them. You will be amazed how much easier and better your project will come out.
What kits are you using specifically? Why yellow if I may be so brazen?
Cool concept and special rules! Good luck and I'll check in from time to time. I'm very interested to see how this turns out.

so far the kits in use, is 2 FoR, 2 bastions, and stuff from an imperial sector. (i bought that ages ago, and never really did anything with it. im not sure the specfic buidlings)
and yellow... because i like it, and its going to be for my pre heresey imperial fist force, so i figured it would be done up in imperial fist colors and livery.

ive been working alot the last few days, and im also still waiting on my next kits and paint supplies to arrive, so not much new done. i did basecoat the first bastion section, and have done some work on the walkway door.
