My first (almost) completed model, a Librarian for my Blood Ravens Army, only reason it's almost is because Forgeworld won't get the decals in for a couple months because their printer is broken! So for now he's complete.
Please bear in mind he's my first but feel free to point out the bad bits and the good bits so my next libby improves!

Pictures are sideways, fix that.
Solid start. It's decent tabletop quality, but if you're looking to improve, I'd start with the tabard. As it is, the wash didn't take as well as it could have. Likewise, your power weapon looks messy. I'd suggest learning how to blend, it'll improve both your fabrics and your power weapons greatly.

Thank you turning one of the pictures, sometimes it works on the phone sometimes it doesn't.
Ok I will look into blending, one side of the PW came out good the other (the outside) I kept messing with to it became what it is now, I had to stop otherwise it would of been worse.

I like it a lot. Personally I'd paint the red arm blue and just have a red knee pad or something, so it looks a little less jarring, but apart from that it's really good. A lot better than I can do and it's just you first. Well done sir!

Not bad, you can see a fair amount of effort went into it. Highlights are decent and I like the effect on the blade's left side.

Thanks for the comments, I agree the red is quite jarring, I did want to stick with the codex paint for the Blood Ravens though.
Any ideas as to how I could fix the poor side of the PW without damaging the rest?
I did have a few issues highlighting the red, I think I'll have to find a ready mixed red that is brighter.

It really is a solid start and the best advice is to just keep at it.
I also still find it helpful to look at painting blogs and technique tutorials. Streak painting, layering, wet blending will all be of use to you, but I would say practice layering and target washing.
Keep at it though, my first model was an absolute train wreck compared with yours!

Honestly, if you really want to make it look better, you'll be better off just doing the power weapon over. Start with a plan, and work with that. Read up on blending, figure out what colours you want, and work up to that.
As for your reds, I'd suggest working the other way around. Dull/darken your red, and then work up to what you're using now.

Mate for your first min that's a dam fine effort ! Dont pay to much attention to some of the comments as their models aren't superb quality . I think you work is well above a beginners..! Blues a very hard colour to highlight. you've done a good job.. your skills will improve in time but ya def off to a very good start well above mine when i first started great work.

I'm pretty new to this too and one advice I can give is, once your blue is applied, dry brush a very thin layer of light grey or white on the model, the paint will catch the edges and you will have good highlights and bring back a lot of details on the mini.
Cheers,

First mini... Impressed. Nice conversion, simple yet really effective. As mentioned above i feel the same about the force weapon.. But dont let that detract from an extremely well painted model.
Hats off to you..

I'm glad I finally know why I haven't been able to get myself any transfers for my UM.
But in relation to your brilliant model, all I can say is that he needs ranking. Most librarians will have a symbol stitched into/ painted onto their tabbard to denote rank.

Other than that, he's awesome.

Good point on the rank, I've noticed the forgeworld Blood Ravens decal has codicer rank on it so it will get added on a knee pad when I can get them.
