I'm out to gather as much information as humanly possible about the Iron Hands. I know of the main sources on the web (Lexicanium and wikia), what I need are specific sources of White Dwarf Articles, Codices pages, books, internet websites that compile other information (that aren't the two listed), or hell, just post what you know here. To note, even if its minor bits from codices, any information referring to them would be helpful (as long as its not too outdated)

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

The flesh is weak brothers! Cast it off and know true purity!

I've actually found a ton of info over the past few days, and to note, they have more different about them than Space Wolves do in some places, so I'm not really necessarily seeing why they never did receive their own codex.

Regardless, thanks for your help guys, just trying to get access to any info I can, I'm considering beginning minor work on a new codex for my upcoming army so any information helps period.

This thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/457902.page contains ample clues about the iron Hands, along with much else. And also about their successor chapter the Sons of Medusae.

Thanks, already read through that yesterday, sadly it kinda devolved into various mini-debates towards the end that weren't as related.

I'm moreso interested in clan structure, fielded units, all that jazz.

Space Wolves Codex would be a good way to represent the Iron Hands.

Dreadnought HQ Possibility.
Attaching Terminators to regular marine squads OR have one Wolf Guard in terminator armour.
Land Raiders - the Iron Hands recruit from rolling mobile townships on their own home planet. I imagine them to be like Jawa Sandcrawlers from Star Wars. So I can imagine Land Raiders being more prominent within their ranks (speculation)
The Clan structure that they operate in hasn't really been expanded as far as I know.
Don't get me wrong, the SW codex isn't a perfect match but it kind of allows you to represent the Iron Hands as they are portrayed in the fluff.

There is a recent Space Marine novel about the Iron Hands that's supposed to be quite good.

Yea the Black Templar or SW codices both work well, I'm just toying with the idea for fun, I like writing custom bits.

What I'm looking at is potentially using a Newcron Royal Court like system for a Council HQ choice, or some other things. Special characters are mostly Dreads, and there will be a hardcoded limit basically on how many dreads you can field. Still toying with some other bits as well as a drastic reduction in termies for the army.

So are you writing a fan codex for the IH?

If so.

Squad Sergeants should have the option to take Terminator Armour and wargear.
Iron Hands hate all other Space Marines chapters for their weakness/failure during the Heresy. They should have a preferred enemy, or hatred for CSM & SM (including varients) to reflect this imho. Perhaps some kind of rule similar to the Black Templars "Abhor the Witch" etc.

JustDave wrote a Space Marine fan codex a while ago with some ideas for chapters not represented in their own books. I'd maybe have a look at it.

I was considering it, if I'm writing one for myself I might as well share it.

If you're interested, here's my notes.
Spoiler:

Command Tree
HQ
Clan Commander (Similar to Space Marine Commander, can take additional bionics/integrated weapons)
Venerable Dreadnaught HQ
Iron Council (Squad of 5-10 consisting of a mix of Iron Captains, Iron Fathers, Clan Elders, Librarians, Apothecaries, Tech Marines, and Standard Bearers)

Special Characters
Bannus (Venerable Dreadnaught, high leadership skills and abilities, special morale stuff, Dual Chainfists, Banner)
Axagoras (Plasma Dreadnaught, enhances plasma weapons in your forces (re-roll Gets Hot?). Power Fists with Plasma Cannons?)
Arven Rauth (Bestows Preferred Enemy (Chaos Space Marines)?)
Karden Stronos
Anatolus Gdolkin (Iron Father Dreadnaught, Power Fist with Storm Bolter on Left, Hurricane Bolter on Right)

Elites
Morlock Terminators (Squad of 3? Elite Terminators, vast wargear options)
Techmarine (Squad of 3-5 Techmarines, can add Servitors)
Iron Guard (Copy of Sternguard Veterans, can take additional bionics/integrated weapons)

Troops
Tactical Clave (Copy of Tactical Marines, can take additional bionics/integrated weapons)
Neophyte Clave (Iron Hands version of "Scouts", effectively newbie marines)
Servitors (Squad of Servitors, can have Techmarine attached to improve efficiency)

Fast Attack
Land Speeder Squadron (See Codex: Space Marines (Custom variant perhaps?))
Biker Clave (See Codex: Space Marines)
Assault Clave (See Codex: Space Marines)
Stormtalon Gunship (See Codex: Space Marines)

Heavy Support
Devastator Clave Copy of Devastators, can take additional bionics/integrated weapons
Whirlwind (See Codex: Space Marines)
Land Raider (See Codex: Space Marines (Custom variant perhaps?))
Predator (See Codex: Space Marines)
Thunderfire Battery (See Codex: Space Marines)

Dedicated Transports
Rhino (See Codex: Space Marines)
Drop Pod (See Codex: Space Marines)

-Instead of Combat Tactics, whole army has Fearless
-Cannot decline challenges
-Sergeants can take Terminator Armor
-Each squad can take various bionics to modify their abilities, including integrated weapons.
-Iron Father bestows Preferred Enemy (Everything) to their squad

Custom Psychic Powers (Found these over on the wikia, need to check source)
=Deus Ex Ferrum=
When an Iron Hands Librarian focuses his mind, he is able to link his iron will to the strength of his augmetics, bolstering himself and his allies, enabling them to shrug off dire wounds that would halt a normal Space Marine.
=Betrayal of Flesh=
Harnessing his hatred for weakness, the Iron Hands Librarian is able to sunder the flesh of his enemies with a blast of pure Warp energy, reducing his enemies to dust.
=Punish the Weak=
After fighting alongside his Iron Hands Battle-Brothers for countless battles, the Librarian has learned how to spare their mechanical bodies while assailing his enemies. He is able to summon forth a roiling tornado of force around himself, harshly tearing at the flesh of anyone not strong enough to stand against its assault.

I thought the IH had lost almost all of their Terminator armor and Dreadnoughts during some drop site massacre in the fluff. I might be wrong, but if that's true, neither dreadnought HQs nor Termie sergeants may be fitting.

I think maybe the option to purchase excessive bionics (+1 Toughness or something, so like a non-Chaos MoN), having several Techmarine/Iron Father options which make them cheaper/viable etc. may make a different take on the IH interesting.

Actually its BECAUSE of that they get specifically Dreadnought HQ and Termie Sergeants. They can't field full Terminator Squads and their Dreadnoughts are revered as heroes. There are like 30 Dreads in the entire chapter, most of them Venerables.

Fielding Morlocks is weird, I'm trying to find a way to make them work without giving the player access to fielding IH Termie armies.
