I wanted to share with you an army build I found quite effective in casual environment.
By that I mean situation where you play rather friendly games at local game store, gaming club or at home.
I have no idea how would it fare in tournaments as I simply don't play them.
Ok, here's the army:
Necrons Default Roster
HQ (280pts)
► Necron Overlord (160pts)
- Mindshackle Scarabs (15pts)
- Resurrection Orb (30pts)
- Sempiternal Weave (15pts)
- Warscythe (10pts)
► Royal Court (120pts)
▸Harbinger of the Storm (25pts)
- Voltaic Staff
▸Harbinger of the Storm (35pts)
- Voltaic Staff
- Lightning Field (10pts)
▸Necron Lord (60pts)
- Sempiternal Weave (15pts)
- Warscythe (10pts)
Troops (822pts)
► 10 Necron Immortals (270pts)
- Gauss Blasters
- Night Scythe (100pts)
► 10 Necron Immortals (270pts)
- Tesla Carbines
- Night Scythe (100pts)
► 14 Necron Warriors (282pts)
- Night Scythe (100pts)
Elites (150pts)
► Triarch Stalker (150pts)
- Heat Ray
Elites (480pts)
► 6 Canoptek Wraiths (240pts)
- 3 Whip Coils (30pts)
► 6 Canoptek Wraiths (240pts)
- 3 Whip Coils (30pts)
Heavy Support (270pts)
► Annihilation Barge (90pts)
- Tesla Cannon
► Annihilation Barge (90pts)
- Tesla Cannon
► Annihilation Barge (90pts)
- Tesla Cannon
Total: 2002 pts
Quick disclaimer:
❶ Necron Overlord and Harbinger of the Storm (without Field) joins Necron Immortals /w Tesla Carbines
❷ Harbinger of the Storm /w Lightning Field joins Necron Immortals /w Gauss Blasters
❸ Necron Lord joins Necron Warriors
❹ This is ment to be played aggressively - nothing here is feeble: 13/13/11 vehicles, flyers, 3++ 2W Wraiths, all will be hard to kill
❺ 3 Troop squads, along with their joined characters are to be quickly delivered via Night Scythes where they are need,
- 12" from the enemy is rapid-fire wall of doom /w some
- 4x haywire-shot flavor for vehicle popping
- and ofc, objective claiming
❻ If those squads get assaulted (that's our weak point), some counter measures were taken:
- Lightning Field ( D6 auto hit S8 AP5 shots vs. assaulting unit) + 24shots from overwatch
- Necron Overlord with 2+ armor, scythe and scarabs is hard to kill already, also we get 10shots from tesla carbine overwatch - every 6 is 3 hits, very nice for this role
- Necron Lord /w scythe and 2+ armor + 28shots from overwatch
❼ Wraiths are our fire-magnet / decoy:
- head towards enemy tanks, aegis defence lines etc. asap!
- unless they want to be in trouble, fire will focus on Wraiths and they are bet on to survive at least 2 rounds under fire (never lost whole unit before charge)
- this should take some heat off Annihilation Barges and Triarch Stalker so move them into positions
❽ Use Triarch Stalker to grant "twin link" to Troop "kill squads" or pop up enemy tanks if they get too close
- I've noticed my opponents tended to ignore stalker as potential low threat (if they have vehicles >24" from it) and focus on Annihilation Barges and Wraiths
- This was their mistake as 20 twin linked gauss S5 shots from Immortal Kill Team mows down vehilces, terminators, MEQ etc... with simple probability
❾ Use Annihilation Barges to wreck overall havoc as this baby can do everything
- destroy light vehicles (up to 12AV is a high chance of success)
- shot down flyers - 8 chances to roll "6" which means 3 hits with S7 - in practice this often means 6 such hits
- be the nightmare of terminators, obliterators and hordes, just pray to dice gods for many sixes
I honestly have to say, this is finally my "generic 2000 roster". So far (about 10 games) it has been performing amazingly - scored victories most of time, including a glorious win against my mentor whom was wrecking me all the time (lost all my games to him ) So far there was no mission where I would find this roster lacking. Word of advice - I mostly deal with SM, IG and Tau - I've never fought Tyranids, Orks or Dark Eldar in 2K game, so can't really say how will it work against them. In general I think this is a very good, non-spam list for all the random fights where you don't know what opponent or mission will you face.
Hope you like it and sorry for the wall of text

I have to say, I really like the way you've laid out everything in your post, especially how you included a photo to go along with it.
Top marks.
I run a similar-ish list, replacing the Stalker with a Death & Despair squad, and a Doomscythe replacing one of the A.Barges.
I find it works wonders against every type of build it has come up against.

Nice looking list. I have one question: how well does the stalker perform? I've been considering giving them a try but I am not sure how well they would do.

I have found stalkers to work best in pairs because they tend to draw fire when standing alone and having a 2 shot MM that tl's everything else that wants to kill what its trying to kill

That indeed sounds interesting, mate That squad is ofc Deathmarks /w HArbinger of Despair /w Veil ? If so, I might give it a try next time
As for DoomScythe so far I had not much luck with it, somehow i fail to score some proper "line of death" results :(
A GumyBear wrote:but im curious as to what the lone lightning field is there for?
As I put it in the disclaimer, it's there to give some protection to the Gauss Immortals who lack a proper CC model in the unit.
The D6 S8 AP5 auto hits can sometimes save your ass and/or discourage some units from assaulting. Many people believe they can trash Necrons in CC due to their I2 and only 1A.
This is true in most cases, but our rapid overwatches sometimes work wonders, especially with Tesla.
Since this squad doesn't have tesla ad it's for different purpose, the Lightning Field and 4 S5 shots from Voltaic Staff simply give them some more survivability if they get assaulted.
Anyway, as always - try to avoid getting assaulted

Stalker can be amazing First of all, as I wrote in disclaimer, many players dismiss it as a threat and therefore ignore it. If they have no importan vehicle or 2+ armored unit in it's range, they think "what can 2 S8 AP1 shots do to my 10-man, 20-man squad etc.."
Same with very heavy vehicles - Land Rider is save unless Stalker moves into the range of 12". Such thinking is their mistake as it turns out
In my turn i pick a unit I want to obliterate completely - be it vehicle or horde of models and deliver a proper troop unit into 12" range from them. Then that unit gets shot at by Stalker - if it only hits (doesn't even have to wound, and that's 2x to-hit chance of 3+) that troop unit we just spawned from Night Scythe is now twin-linked against Stalker's victim. Twin-linked barrage of 20-28 gauss shots will tear down any damn vehicle, mow down any low armor (4+ and lower) unit. You can also try that with Tesla Immortals - more chances to score sixes - better against heavy armored units that you have to kill with ton of shots to lower their chance of scoring all 3+/2+ saves
Hope this helps.

Some people like to run D&D squads with a Veil on the Despair-tek. Personally, I'm not a fan of deep strike scatter/mishaps, so I tend to stick them in a Nightscythe. Pinpoint insertion, AND an additional Tesla Destructor on the table is always good.

That's true, you can never have enough Tesla Destructors
I'll give a try to Deathmarks /w Despairtek - they have been nice in 1000pt games, so it might turn out nice

To my understanding each royal court is only allowed one each crytekh harbinger correct? so therefore you would not be allowed to take two harbingers of the type. correct me if im wrong.

You are wrong sorry you can only take one of each special wargear you can still have multiples of the harbingers just not 5 veils

I'm glad that you guys like it
As for crypteks - only the additional items you buy are restricted "1 per court" - harbinger types are not
I just wanted to correct one thing - the models in the picture are only to represent how this roster looks on the table - models themselves are not mine
I play using my friend's models as he has a whole bunch of them and all are painted, and I'm still painting mine
Ofc the army list itself is my own idea and now I'm painting my own models towards it
