Under a pile of rubble

Ever had the money for models but not any more for decorating the bases to simulate terrain? I'm sure some of you out there have done what I am suggesting but for those who did not think of it before me I'm sure you will have a face palm moment because by buying the models themselves you also bought the baseing material. We cut the bits out of the molding lattice but what do you do with it? Most throw it away but in a pinch take those using a fingernail clipper to cut it up into small chunks (See attached picture). Then glue those chunks mostly even on the base. Take a lighter and flash flame it for only a half a second at a time to slightly melt the chunks softening the edges. Careful not to melt the base itself only the chunks. There you have it a textured base (See 2nd attached picture)

I can base your whole army with a handful of sand and a $0.72 bottle of white glue, with the added benefit of fewer health hazards, like fire and fumes.

That's budget basing.

Good work on finding a use for that stuff, looks like it will make a good urban base.

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.

15mins to cut the material you already have 20mins to glue it and maybe 5 mins to flash flame it. 40 mins to base an army or 30 mins to and from the store, another 10 to 15 to glue and spread the sand also 72 cents plus cost of sand to base an army (Don't know about you but finding sand in an urban area is a bit hard) So less time and money budgets time and money plus less dirty I'm cheep and lazy LOL

Chopped sprue rubble can make good urban rubble, but it's not a significant cost savings.

You can get a 50lb bag of all purpose mixed-grain sand at Home Depot for $2.45. Or just carry a baggie or jar in your pocket, and scoop some up if they have any ruptured bags (which they almost certainly will). If you ask they will probably let you have enough to base any three armies for a dollar, if they charge you at all.

That plus dollar-store white/school/PVA glue should give you basic basing material for an two or three armies for under $2.

Actually, I used to live in Brooklyn, NY. There are a lot of places to get sand, or small grains of gravel. All you have to do is look down.

All and all though you never have to waste all that plastic again, gotten better at this doing it over and over for my IG army, also making it different for each leg type of the guardsmen really gives them more life
