*Also a special note: the rear dozers are for digging in against the massive recoil. A lot of large artillery pieces have these, like the M107 self propelled gun

Amazing work! The only thing I could critic is that I dislike the rear dozers.

Thats a mad looking tank. Love all the extra armour and the over sized canon. Not to sure about the rear dozers though. What was your reasoning for putting them there?

Also whats a Typhon? I'm not aware of that Landraider varient.

Amazingly good stripes. Did you use a stencil or template of some kind or just free-hand it? If the latter, then you are a frickin' surgeon with that paint!

@ snurb, the typhon is a FW model for HH series, land raider spartan with a massive cannon

The 2 dozers blades on the back would be to dig in the ground to counter the immense recoil from the massive cannon on the front. As for the model itself.... very well done

I agree, is the tank clearing rubble or combing for mines in reverse? The rest of the tank is phonomenal! I really like the cannon on the front of the tank...nice work

I think the feeling might be that the rear blades give you added realism at the cost of visual and thematic quality. On an IG tank, they would rock! But on a Space Marine vehicle, if you do not immediately recognize their purpose (and many do not, I know I didn't until you confirmed Kevv's guess) then they just look out of place, and if you DO realize what they're for, then they give the unspoken implication that the tank cannot handle its recoil without support, without an artificial crutch. That undermines some of the thematic power of the army the tank is for, I think. For a Space Marine army, the less concessions to frailty, the better, and if that means we are left to assume they just handle their recoil like men (even when you, as the artist, know that to be highly unrealistic) then so be it.

Now, that being said, I don't think that you have a tank which gives off an aura of weakness, it just has a single element which undermines its visual message of strength. I think you might be able to get a similar effect if you were to change up the type or position of the rear blades. I have a similar set-up for my scratchbuilt Thunderfire cannon, which uses the claws from a Chaos Defiler to grab the ground and hold itself there. I think that by altering the look and position of the dozer blades to be more aggressive (either by posture: poised to stab into the ground, like a looming claw, or by conversion: the addition of some larger pointy bits, maybe like the scythe-y bits the old dozer blades used to have) you can take away some of that undercurrent. I think that by replacing some of that defensive look for a look with a bit more menace behind it, you can add even more awesome to the heaping pile of amazing that you already have!

I love it! I envision this vehicle ramming through Orks and their vehicles only to slide to a stop, dig in, and let fly with that main cannon on a Gargant. All while bruning more greenskins. Great work on conversions and paint.

Really like the frontal shield, and the awesome paintjob! Can't feel the love for the (imho) weirdly shaped side armour though

Though I may not be behind the colours 100%, this is definitely a very nicely painted model. I particularly like the cannon and the dozer blade - these are especially clean and they really draw your attention. The sides made me giggle actually; at first, I thought it was supposed to be a Pac-Man Landraider. The gun shield over the black side armour really reminded me of the game.

Overall great job - almost didn't mention it, but your OSL looks awesome! Just out of curiosity, is the gunner's Adeptus Mechanicus shoulder marking a decal or hand painted?

AWESOME!!! I have been watching this take shape for awhile and to see it finished is amazing. THAT is a Land Raider Ares! The big momma fits really well on the land raider chassis and looks so much cooler than the vindicator canon on the land raider.
