Well, after months of procrastination (read, painting Orks), I've finally finished the first squad of my 1850 point IG army. Just basic grunts at this stage, as they are the test squad. I've decided I like the British DPM camo, so that will appear on all infantry units. I'm still undecided how to do the Storm Troopers - camo armour and plain fatigues or camo everything? I'll post a test figure and canvas your thoughts. Comments, as always, welcome.

Beautiful camo, might very well be the best I have seen on minis. Can't wait to see the vehicles.

Test squad?!? The metal needs some Chainmail (or equivalent)...and that's about it. Now, about those Orks...

Wow, such a crisp painting style! The faces are great and so is the camo, I immediately recognize the pattern, not a mean feat! I'd almost say that the bases are a bit of a let down (I'm referring to the 'grass' here) in comparison.

Fantastic job on the British DPM camo. I can only assume since you're using that camo that these particular Antipodeans are in fact Kiwis.
Fantastic job. I love being able to recognise real-world camo patterns on minis.

wow those look so real. fantastic painting. I might submit that they look a little bit cartoony b/c they're soo clean, like they just came from the laundromat. but then why mess up such a nice paintjob with painted mud.
my unfamiliarity with guard Q is what's the guy with the full auto shotgun?

Do not use the CLEAR dice!
Dear Whiny Space Marine Players, you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.
suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman! |

my unfamiliarity with guard Q is what's the guy with the full auto shotgun? That's a grenade launcher. You're excused for not recognizing it as so few players use them. Excellent work here. I love the DPM... that must be a real pain to paint on so many models.

Good to see you posting Gordy!! Great looking guard, however, do they fight at all?? or just march on parades in pristine kit and clean uniforms?? I know it's a matter of taste to an extent, but as great as the painting is technically, the clean toyness ruins it somewhat for me. Get weathering !

It's...it's...it's a grenade launcher! /me wipes tears from his eyes and rejoices that he can now laugh himself back to sleep *wink* You know, I don't think I've ever seen Cadians look so mean. You've really done the sculpts justice, Gordy.

Goregeous work, far better than my DPM efforts. Very VERY accurate DPM pattern on your uniforms. As has been said perhaps a wash on the metallics to add some 'lowlights' to them.
Great work look forward to seeing more

Thanks guys - I think the comments about the "clean" look are right - I may have to gird my loins and slap some mud over the boots and lower legs (my clean guardsmen...sob)
Scipio - yep, Kiwi infantry all right. I'll be naming the vehicles after Maori myths and weapons, and might even put a moko or two on the vet Sgts

Well some of us paint so badly that it automatically looks weathered by default, so there's nothing wrong with your painting there.

This is an incredible job. I agree with the comments on the bases. Some random medium sized stones or clumps of static grass might give it that extra 'edge'. You should be proud of the results. Well done!

That camo pattern looks great. I can paint flesh, armor, weapons and fatigues fairly well, but for some reason I'm terrible at painting jungle/woodland camo patterns. I must know how you did it or at least the colors you used (I think it would look good on my catachans).
Oh, and congratulations, you've done what few people can: Make the new cadian models look badass.

Camo looks wonderful. The smooth green you've achieved looks nice, but some of the highlights seem a bit thick in some spots (mainly on the shin-guards).
I tend to agree with Migs in the weathering department. It's a personal taste thing that really makes the pieces come to life instead of having the 'toy' feel he described. The level of weathering really depends on the vision you have of your army. If you're somewhat apprehensive about putting the weather on them thick, a quick drybrush of bleached bone would go a long way to making them feel out of the gate a few miles ^_^.
Just some thoughts! Hope to see some more stuff soon.
