Hi all.

For a pre-heresy traitor marine army I'm working on, we've decided to use the old space crusade dreads as counts-as Obliterators. Below is a picture I found on the gallery of the same models, made by felloow dakka user Minus. I was wondering if there is a specific name for this dread pattern, or if it just was the old design and was basically retconned out of the fluff.

I've never seen that type before, kinda cool.

Its probably been passivly retconned, just like the original dreadnought design.

I think it was only ever referred to as a chaos dreadnought. I always preferred the 4 weapon version from Operation Dreadnought though

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yeah, it was never really given a backstory, and never made it into regular 40K... It was only used in Space Crusade and briefly in Space Marine (the precursor to Epic 40000).

I love them, and their cute scrunched up little faces.

Check the Space Crusade rulebook for answers? You can probably download the rules somewhere.

He should have kept the original weapons, although I don't know what you'd do for an autocannon.

I'm pretty sure it was only ever referred to as "Chaos Dreadnaught", and unfortunately I'm no where near my set to check the rule/mission book for you.

Don't recall if anything was mentioned in the original game, but the Mission Dreadnought expansion had four classifications:

short legs + 2 guns (the original Space Crusade Dread):
Mark VII Dreadnought - Malevolent class

long legs + 2 guns:
Mk VIII Dreadnought - Marauder Class

short legs + 4 guns:
Mk IX Dreadnought - Dominator Class

long legs + 4 guns:
Mark X Dreadnought - Abomination Class

Hopefully we'll see them again one day - Forge World showed concept sketches for an update a few years ago, very similar shape but styled like the Brass Scorpion of Khorne.

I used to use my Chaos Androids as Pariahs. Now I use them as Deathmarks (even replacing the ones whose guns broke off with Synaptic Disintegrators )

Either that or GW forgot about them, and then ripped off Terminator a second time, without realizing they'd already done it once before.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

huh, I thought I read on a box about the Eldar Dreadnaught. I've got one of those Dreadnaughts from my sister's ex-boyfriend and I never picked it up and noticed the eight arrow star on one side and what looks like a primitive version of the World Eaters symbol on the other side, until just now.

also it has a hand painted flame decal.

I just assumed it was meant to be from the same "race" as the slightly Necron-like "androids" from that game, and I always thought it was a robot rather than a Dreadnought as we now know them. You could say they are leftovers from the Dark Age of Technology, or the time of the Men of Iron.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

The dread from SC is the Milton-Bradley pattern?

They needed MB's boardgame and marketing skills to put the game out at the time (minis were made by GW, the rest was MB).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
