Hi all
I want to start airbrushing my models and I'm after a cheap airbrush kit. I want to be able to do some detail and to keep cost down so use propellant.
Has any one got any ideas on what's a good starter kit please?
Thanks
Scott UK.

What is your budget? Airbrush equipment is an investment to the hobby. Buy something good and you will have it for really long time. Buy something cheap and it is almost money thrown away.
I am not saying that you must invest a small fortune but for a reasonable amount you can get a descent compressor and a good beginners airbrush.

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

PM me if you are interested in Commission work.

Will £50 get me something that's ok?
Don't want to spend fortune on good kit yet but don't want something that will break quickly.

Well at this kind of budget this will not break quickly. Keep in mind that it is better to invest more in the compressor and later buy a better airbrush.

Something like that is preferred if you can afford it. Later on you can buy a beginners airbrush from iwata or budger and keep the same compressor. At least that's what I did to begin with.

That kit looks like the exact one I got from harbor freight for around $90 shipped. I've used it for over a year to do many models.
The only thing it really needs to do finer details is a pressure regulator.

In place of a compressor, I rigged up a CO2 canister from a paintball gun to two regulators in sequence. Attach hose and brush, and voila. No moisture trap needed because the CO2 won't generate any. The rig is light enough to hook to your belt if you're moving around for whatever reason. Refill on the canister is something like $5.

Granted, the brush I'm using is an old secondhand Paasche, so this probably cost me less than it would to most people.

My opinion is to go the compressor route if you plan on doing a lot of airbrush work. In the long run the money is worth it. Otherwise, if you plan only to do a little or to do only base washes quickly (my main use), go with the can.

Take the kit in the second link, the compressor has a tank. It makes a world of difference.

i actually got the brushes from the first link with the compressor from the second link for about £70 from amazon,
currently out of stock, someone from dakka, only about a week ago however put me onto rdgtools. the same kit there for the same price (3rd one down on this page)

i also just bought a BD-208 from them, i cannot find it on the website now however, but its very similar to the bd-200 with a smaller tip.
cant comment on the 208 yet btw, its still dry and unused
