If you're like me and you're not a fan of the hovering fly stand destroyer models GW makes then this is a pretty easy conversion and I think looks really cool to.

It uses bits from immortals and lychguard boxes and is pretty simple to do as long as you have some 40mm bases lying around.

I was also thing about changing from space marine jump packs to these ones from chapter house studios

All I did here was pot a lychguard together, then I trimmed the spine down so I could attach a jump pack and green stuff togehter.

This just a close up so you can see to close the gap between the body and pack.

Here is the first heavy destroyer I made, the gun is just 2 guass blasters from the immortals box put together with some bits and pieces removed so they fit nice together.

The back where I used the cabling from the immortals back to attach the gun to the model.

I'm sorry but all I see are marine backpacks on Necrons.

There are all sorts of gaming issues too - los, base size, model size.

But hey ho, just my opinion.

I am currently taking commissions.

How very astute of you two, they are in fact necrons with jump packs. That was kind of the look I was going for.

I think their point is, those space marine packs draw the eye away from the necrons themselves - thats all people see.

I myself like the idea of a necron jetpack. Kind of like the necrons "absorbing" tech as they need it (a la the borg or transfomers)

But it might look better with Necron-y jetpacks, or a modified marine jetpack with necron parts.. Something like using parts from the Canoptek spyder, tetriarch, barge, or tomb blades.

I get what ur trying to say, put the best i can make these guys count as are praetorian since praetorian are same size and jump troops, but praetorian don't use heavy weapons.
Commend you on the originality, but i dont think this would work well with other players.

Previous posters have hit on the head with these... Great idea to try and change the destroyers, as I am not a fan of the current models, but yours have too much of a size differential from the originals. Many gamers will have issues with this since it will be much easier for you to hide these from LOS and place them in terrain. Good try though mate! I was thinking of using praetorian sprues and canoptek spyders for mine (whenever I get around to building a necron army!). It'd be quite expensive but I plan on going for a canoptek themed army eventually. Though not as competetive as other necron army builds, I just love the spiders and wraiths and see a lot of conversion potential in them for a small, themed army! Good luck!

I wouldn't mind the use of those jump packs if your SM players all used the DA or CSM ones because the standard packs can be made to look like they belong on a Necron easily enough. You'd still have to trim the obvious SM backpack bit in the center-bottom and replace it with something more Necron-ish.

This still doesn't address the problem of the model's footprint as others have stated. Destroyers are on the large flying base which means they'd use a Dread base if you don't want to use the large flying base. Your model is really small for that size of base. If you were to use these as Praetorians on the other hand, that'd be a lot more acceptable.

The base is only missing a half inch, and if you think about it they will still move the same distance the only thing that will change is the number if models you will be able to place in base contact with the destroyers. But if you can't kill 3 heavies in close combat your gonna have a bad time anyway. The height of the model is only slightly shorter than a destroyer on one of the short flying bases (short as in the rod you use to elevate them) So since I only play at my friends house they work for what they are meant to do so. I'm also running out of non broken flying stands because of poor balancing of GW destroyers

As far as the bland jump packs you folks are right they could use spruced up a bit but the options out there for non ornamented jump packs are limited. If anyone has a better conversion I always like to look at new things so send me a link.

Under the couch

There were some destroyers floating around some time ago that were basically Immortals with the Destroyer's beetle carapace sliced in half and mounted as wings. Looked quite effective, and would fit the aesthetic better than the marine jump packs.

Honestly I would not play with those models due how much the modeling for advantage comes into play. Destroyers aren't that small, and being able to hide them from LoS takes the conversions too far. Were it Praetorians, that'd be a different story as they are roughly the same size.

Good on you for trying to get away from the destroyer models - I don't like them at all. As mentioned above, you might need to adjust the idea some more.

This idea of a necron backpack just fiddled in my brain all night, so i did do a search for some conversions.

one is right here in our own gallery: it looks like they chopped up the "vents' on the destroyer. I like this concept.

Here's one someone mentioned before with the "wings":

I have no problem with the actual jump-pack, I just don't like the aesthetic effect between the legs and the jump-pack. Maybe if the shield was chopped to create a spideresque abdomen instead of legs.... I appreciate your reason for doing this though. Destroyers are fething expensive, so anything one can do to get the full squad without an empty wallet....

hell, praetorians even come with an extra torso back, I'm sure that between that extra back and the shield, coupled with the jump-packs, a nice base could be developed for them.
