ok so im after a flying army that will work well fighting grey knights and tau and im a big noobie as this is my first army ever in 40k but im after a cheezy necron army that will work well at local torneys as im not spending alot of money for an army that is only ok im in it to win and have fun even if it means cheezing.

So this is what ive got so far im going for a 1750 army thanks to the advice from Jabbdo

Looks like a typical cut and paste cron air list to me (although I have heard of some with even more scythes in).

The only thing I will say is you don't need the resurrection orbs on the destroyer lords as the wraiths (who I am assuming they will be running with) do not have reanimation protocols.

Also, I am sure this list will be fun for you if you win with it, but what about your opponent having fun?

Doom Scythes are pretty overpriced for what they bring, especially considering that they can't hit other Flyers. They tend to come in, shoot once, then die. Admittedly, they do have nice potential against some targets, but they are just a bit too random IMO, and not nearly survivable enough for their cost. Annihilation Barges, on the other hand, cost next to nothing considering their shooting and survivability. They shoot infantry well, they shoot Flyers well, and they are fairly hard to kill at range, all for 90pts. I'd seriously consider filling your HS slot with 3 of them.
Your list is only 1630pts, unless I've counted wrong..

Res orb isn't really needed on the DLords, to give you 1/6 better chance to pass your RP the orb is a pretty steep cost. Otherwise the DLords are well equipped, and a very good choice with Wraiths. Your points are wrong on the DLords btw, they're only 190pts with Orb.

Dropping the Orbs, and the Doom scythe gives you, enough to get you 3 ABarges and leave you 25pts left over.

3 troops is sort of light, but you CAN potentially get by with them. If you want, you can drop the small squad of Wraiths for a 4th troop squad. The Wraiths also don't really need that many Whip coils, 1 or max 2 is enough, as you only really need them to drop the I of big hitters, like GD's, DP's, Hive tyrants... basically, single models that you want to kill before they kill your Wraiths, and for that, a single coil is sufficient. In big combats you don't REALLY need multiple coils.

The list would look like this at that point:

Destroyer Lord, sempiternal weave, MSS 160
Destroyer Lord, sempiternal weave, MSS 160

(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100
(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100
(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100
(5) Warriors 65 ---> Night Scythe 100

(6) Wraiths, 1x whip coil 220
(6) Wraiths, 1x whip coil 220

Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90
Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90
Annihilation Barge, tesla cannon 90

= 1690

I'd use the 60pts to upgrade 3 of the warrior squads to Tesla Immortals, but its really up to you at this point. Another option is dropping a whip coil for a 5th backfield objective camper Warrior squad, but you don't necessarily need 5 troops at 1750, 4 should be sufficient, especially in night scythes.

One problem is the risk of getting tabled before you get your scythes on, and you still need some AT,

perhaps with the remaining 60 points, grab some harbingers of the storms for the warriors.

rohansoldier i know what you mean about my opponent having fun but as a first army to get into the game I was wanting something with power and something that was fun for me as they will play many people with less cheese army and can have fun with that and once I get my second army and learn the game more thats when I can relax abit more and play around with an army and make it fun for both sides.

Jabbdo I love the army comp that you Have made looks very nice and i think ill set that as my army for advice now as it looks more stable and accurate in points :p

a single Whip Coil on a unit of 6 Wraiths?
that really works for you?
how do you keep it alive?

the typical "half the squad get coils" loadout tends to be part redundancy (in the very likely event that one of the others dies, you're sure to have a back up), and part usefulness of having a bunch of models in the enemy unit hitting late.

Also, blood guard26, you can't have Storm-teks if you don't have Overlords.
Sorry.

I could upgrade 2 of the warrior squads and add 2 whip coils to add the count back up what do you think? that should use the left over points

I've only ever found myself missing Whip coils if I haven't taken them against single hard hitting models, eg MC's, Mephiston, TWC lords or whatnot. In large combats, sure you can reduce 2-3 models to I1 per coil equipped wraith, but IMO its just not worth the cost. I keep my single coil alive my keeping him near the middle or at the back of the squad, so he doesn't get removed first. Sure, he can get precision shot'd out, or have artillery blasts snipe him, but its not like he's integral to the unit's effectiveness.

The Destroyer Lords come equipped with Warscythes automatically.

The army looks good but I think you will find no one will want to play you, I never play my cron air unless I'm practicing for a tournie or at one. I think going full cheese for a 1st army isn't a great way to get into the game.

It depends. I'd always recommend a strong codex and build to a new player, as it helps them get into the game much better when they don't lose all the time because they're playing a battleforce army. Its always better to own a strong, tournament worthy army, which you can take to any game and expect to give a good showing, than to own a weak mismatched list and just hope to do well.

As a newer player playing a strong list, you'll learn much faster when playing against more experienced players also wielding good lists, as opposed to playing crap lists against players who also play crap lists to give you a chance.

Hi Kendowned I plan on playing with 2 m8s one who has played the game about 2 years and has gone to a few torneys and one who is starting with me the guy who has played for about 2 years uses a cheezy GK list and so he said he didnt mind me have cheese as it would be good practice for them and after talking to the local GW store they said a few of the locals would not play me at the weekends when they tend to appear but in general aslong as i dont mind people moaning about me cheesing he thinks i should get games (this was before I had a list and was talking about necron air when looking at the models so he may have just been trying to sell them to me)

Well it looks pretty devastating at the moment. The extra points would go well on more whip coils and the rest on more warriors.

My biggest concern would be against AV13-AV14, particularly Landraider builds as you know Landraiders only come in pairs or more. But Necron AV13 spam and Guard Russ spam could cause you real problems.

Vehicles with armour value 13 or 14. What have you got that can hurt that? Not much at range and only 2 characters in CC and in the case of LR its often too late if you wait until in CC range particularly with your best cc units.

what could be a good thing to take? maybe drop a wraith from each unit and take a couple of Destroyers? or will i still be in the same boat?

Personally I would discourage this list especially as you have said you are a new player and will be playing with friends.

I would myself take a more balanced list with more of the options in the codex available. Then again I am a more casual player who only plays with friends or at local clubs so not too worried about tournament play.

Also, please don't take this the wrong way but are you only playing necrons so you can take this powerful, some might say downright cheezy, list or because you like the look, background and play style of the army?

If your answer is so you can play the list, I would personally have a rethink about your choice of 1st army as imo this choice should more be made based on look and feel of the army and not a single powerful build the army can pull off.

But hey, if it is what you want, then go for it. I just hope you manage to get some games in.

well i played fantasy high elves went out spent about £150 on models because I liked the look and then couldnt use half of them as they were bad unit choices then I stopped playing and then as my m8s have gotten into 40k i was thinking hay lets have a look and it was a pick between these and nids as i liked the look of the models so I then checked the codexs looked at forums and then looked at which had power and found that necrons were stronger that nids as i wanted a flying army so looked more into necrons and then came up with idea to make them look even cooler and then started to look for best lists and thats how this adventure at dakka dakka started so it was a choice between these or nids as i think the armys look cool and i would like moding/painting them and now im not wanting to go down the same road as before with spending money blind (nids will be my second army about a year down the line once im happy with how i play the game and know more)

Bear in mind that every vehicle with av13-14, except for Land Raiders (and monoliths lol) have rear armor 10-11, so your Wraiths will still tear them up in CC (they will tear up any vehicle pretty much with decent rolls, up to and including Land raiders). Most also only have side armor 11-12 (Preds, Battlewagons, Furioso dreads) so if you can line up side shots (easy with Flyers) they go down pretty reliably.

Most gaming stores/groups will have players who attend tournaments and like to play competitive armies, so shouldn't be too hard. If people complain that you play lists that are too "cheesy", then you should take time to discuss their lists with them and how they could possibly improve them.

Tyranids are also fairly powerful in 6th, they received a fair boost. However, they get shut down hard by some armies, and they tend to be quite random due to a reliance on Psychic powers and Monstrous creatures (who are inherently random in all armies, either they do well and kill armies or die really quickly). Nids can do very well though, especially due to the internet concencus of "lol nids they suck balls" people will underestimate them.

Necrons are a more balanced army though, who will have very few inherent weaknesses if built properly, and are far less random and easier to get the hang of for a new player.

I was the same when I first started, I sank alot of cash into Space Wolves without playing or knowing the ins and outs of the army.

I went to my local GW and booked an hours army building tutorial, I sat with James for an hour and we went through which armies I wanted to play because I liked the look of them.

Over the course of the hour we covered, 500pts list, 1000pts, 1500pts and 2000pts. Once I understood the dynamic of the army I got comfortable in creating an army that I liked. Granted it isn't competative by any means but I have a even score against my small playing group (same number of wins, loses and draws).

It would be easier to talk face to face if possible to someone that knows what there talking about to guide you in the right direction.

I'm currently putting in two royal courts with my list to make some awesome killing squads, I haven't got enough flyers for the flyer-spam list but I have seen it in action. Watching that wasn't fun nevermind the orc player that got wiped out.

Destroyers are terrible stay away from them.

You have 2 choices drop a destroyer lord and wraith unit to take an Overlord and storm teks (and possibly a deathmark squad with attached despairtek for ap1 flamer that wounds on 2+).

Or drop 2 barges and a warrior squad and get two doomscythes. The doomscythe is a little overcosted but would fit in your army and cover the weakness.

Jabdo doesn't come across Landraiders in his area hence why he wrote a list that didn't really cover that eventuality.

FlingitNow is right about the Stormteks, if you find you're having problems with Land raiders then swap one of the DLords for an Overlord and pick some Stormteks to help out against heavier armor.

In tournaments here I rarely face Land raiders, none of the competitive players here play them in 6th often, if at all, so I don't take Stormteks as I figure by playing my Wraiths smartly I can deal with one if it shows up (Finland has a pretty tight-knit tournament community, you'll usually know most of the other guys at tournaments, especially those around Helsinki).

Looks like a standard flying bakery to me so no comments there (you'll win infinitely more than you lose with either of those builds), but I would second what people have said about the enjoyment factor of taking a list like this. As you learn the game better I think you will start to find playing with it quite boring as most of your opponents will either hate Wardhammer and resent playing you instinctively (even at tournaments) or be easily tabled after the first couple of turns as their codexes simply won't be able to give you a competitive game. So yeah it depends what you want to get out of your toy soldiers - I like the challenge of taking weaker armies to tournaments and seeing what you can make out of it, but I fully understand people wanting to win all their games and taking the strongest build they can. Either way I hope you enjoy, that's the main thing after all!
