They are very clean and smooth, a bit too much for my personal tastes, but they are nice nonetheless. Good work.

Thanks for the comment mate and sorry for the low quality phone pic!

What do you mean by 'clean & smooth'? As in, not battle-worn?

How can I do this better?

Some people prefer their models a little more beat-up. I myself prefer the factory fresh look. Nice, smooth bone color you've got here. Great work!

I use lots of heavy washes, dry brushing, dark battered colours and black / brown weathering powders. That's just my personal taste. There is nothing wrong with the factory fresh look that you've gone for, and as I said they look good.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Emperor be praised!

I myself like the worn look. However, with the Deathwing, I'm terrified of 'wearing' them as I don't have the proper technique now to pat just yet - hence I'm going for the 'less-is-more' route for now. You can see that I've washed every colour which is NOT BONE extensively... from the weapons to the red coloured deco.

Do you have any idea how I could put on a little bit more 'wear and tear' on my Deathwing? :-)

Wow nice, by the way, did you build these out of the vanilla marine box or the DW one?

And also, how many points do they cost and from which codex, vanilla or DA? Only I know that there is not a Deathwing Assualt Termie entry in DA codex.

There isn't because Deathwing can mix-and-match. Reading is fundamental!

Back on track... these look very nice and clean, but not very bone-white. A quick sepia wash will bring out some details.

You could use a very thin black / brown wash (being careful of excessive tide marks), and applying weathering powder to the legs. That's the way I'd go about it if I were painting Deathwing. However, I wanted a Deathwing army but didn't want to paint all that Bleached Bone, so I started a Minotaurs army. Gold is far easier to weather.

Thanks for viewing and your kind comments friend!

The D/W Boxed Set comes with only 1x Thunder Hammer... :-((( But it looks really nice. Plus the Storm Shields are absolute beauties too (D/W Knight Storm Shields)! So... I gave the set to Belial.

Hence the box of 5 sets of TH/SS or 5 sets of Lightning Claws only comes with the Vanilla Set.

In accordance with the latest DA Codex - The D/W Termie squad costs 220 as base. TH/SS are 5 pts apiece = 245 pts for a squad of 5 D/W. Obviously it will cost more if you put in more D/W up to max of 10 per squad (490 pts for 10 D/W each with TH/SS).

Thanks for your suggestions.

After you mentioned I realised my fear of over washing the Bone colour is a little over the top. These guys need more shading! I didn't want to overdo it but it seems that underdoing it makes the colour look flat. Better find a balance here!

There is no such thing as over washing. Just be careful to smooth the tidemarks away and you're fine.

These look nice, I feel like they would benefit next from some sharp off white edge highlights. Agree that a little bit of weathering might set them off nicely too

Blatant mould lines make me sad... otherwise, lovely.

They look nice, especially considering how recent you are to the hobby.

A few quick constructive criticisms:

1) Mold lines are pretty obvious throughout the squad -- Trim those better. One of the things I do is use the reverse edge (blunt side) of a hobby knife. Most are sharp enough to trim off mold lines but dull enough not to cut into the model proper. You can quickly scrape over most plastic models in just a few minutes.

2) There's not a lot of apparent highlighting so a lot of your features get a little flat. The things that stand out: your greens, red, and bone would all benefit from mixing your lightest color you used with a touch of white (not a lot) and then hitting the edges of those things painted in said colors. If you have premixed colors that are higher on the color wheel, you can use those, too. (actually, it looks better when you use natural complementary colors to lighten it -- add yellow to green to make a much more naturally lightened tone for instance)

3) Shadows - These can really help a model pop. Darkening the recesses more than just a simple wash can really made the highlighting and lighted areas really stand out. It's something to play with and can keep a model from looking flat. It's hard to do, though, at first, and requires some practice. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't look just right immediately. Watch internet videos, read tutorials.

I would wash the whole model not just parts it will almost add the battered or weathered effect for you. then you can use bleached bone over the wash to highlight with.
