Subject: Crisis Suit! (warning: amateur painter) to tiger stripe or not to tiger stripe?

Hey guys thanks for clicking hope I dont disappoint. I just painted this crisis suit tonight. He is painted in the same armor color as my dark eldar. I was thinking of using an allied detachment of tau "slaves". He doesnt have missile pods yet because they are in the mail and will be painted a completely different color. What do you guys think of the red camo stripes? Its just a basic job but im split between keeping them or taking them off.

I'm not a fan of the color combo, but other than that looks good for an "amateur". I do however, think it'd look a lot better if you edged the stripes in black. Even a light dry brush.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting
Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

The model could use a wider array of colours, just because of the fact that most tournaments I play in require the minimum of 3 visible and differentiating colours on a scheme.
The model looks good for an "amateur", but IMHO you could try highlighting instead of drybrushing your models for the sake of clean paintwork.
Tiger stripes are a hard thing to execute in the beginnig, so you should practice on cheaper models, and then move on to your crisis suits.
If you have an entire army with that colour scheme, I would very much want to see it.

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

I am aware that most tau are painted very cleanly and thats a common style however the theme im going for here is that my dark eldar captured and enslaved some tau to fight for them. (Desperate allies). So I decided to depart from the traditional clean cut scheme and went for matching colors with my de. The difference is that my de dont have any of the tiger striping but the armor color is similar. Im still undecided on the striping for the suits, ill try the black drybush tonight and post more pictures.

A black and a white in the pattern would not be a bad thing, and would serve to really make those stripes pop more readily.

I don't think those two colours go particularly well but I like the concept.

On the second pic we barely see the suit's "eye" which is red like the rest of the pattern. Might consider using a different color to make the head pop.
Maybe some night vision green effect or a blue for a big contrast or maybe a glowy orange if you want to stay close to the red.

I second the night vision green idea for the "eyes".
One point of contention I have tho, is that dry brushing is the beginner's highlighting.
Something that might help that rough look tho, is a light wash. Either before or after you apply the striping. Try a thin black or blue/black wash. It should add the dimensionality its missing.

I read once that the best way to check to see if your color choices work is to look at a B&W photo of the work to see if the color change is visible. If it's not, the color values are too close, and they'll just blur together on the tabletop.
So..
Compare that to this (from CoolMiniOrNot.com)
Outlining the stripes would help, as would using a darker or lighter red.

What do you guys think of the tiger stripes in general? Assuming I could make them look better do you think they would good on the model itself? Im not sold on it so far. But I feel that without the stripes the mini look rather unfinished or dull.

I like the idea. The one stripe going perpendicular to the rest of the model, on its left thigh, throws me off a bit, but I realize that's just me splitting hairs.
