I'm getting back into Tau after a break from them due to the release of the new codex, I need an Aegis defence line for my list and Unfortunately I'm not the most experienced scratchbuilder, and with my A2 exams coming up next month preparing my transition into University I don't have a lot of time on my hands to learn or build either, so I am looking for someone who could scratch build me some Tau Barricades and possibly a Gun to count as an Icarius Lascannon, based on the Aegis Defence line dimensions (big and small barricades), I have money and a few Tau/Ork bitz to trade (see my trading thread) and wouldn't mind international trading if I can't get any offers within the UK, please pop me a PM if you're interested in Commissioning.

Cheers

I don't have the skills for the commission, but would be interested in hiring someone to make me a Tau themed ADL also.

So there are atleast 2 commissions for some one!

Yeah I know what you mean! I wish GW/FW would release custom barricades for each army, being onl a teenager and not really into the hobby for a couple of years I've barely touched plasticard, let alone work with it!

I'm expecting to see a lot of comission work for someone if they can do it as the new book's out

I'd be willing to do up some sketches to show you and possibly build it. I would like to hear what you might expect from a Tau ADL, Icarus and quad gun. I have some ideas for other races and Tau was on the list. Though I am in the US, not sure if that would be difficult or not.

Any clue what style you'd like it in?

I have seen some super rounded edge wants matching the style of IOM ADL but with tau symbols, more roundness etc...

energy shield style

seen ones similar to these by a local yokel

can't find any info on stuff made in first pic, thread was on a tau forum and since then has been deleted it seems

depending on what y'all are wanting, I can take a shot as well. based in US myself

It's all depend on the pricing for the ADL, but i don't mind paying for shipping, I'd be happy for you to sketch up something for me. In fact, I have a few pictures below of what I'd like l, just let me know what you could do.

I think my favourite one is the second one in this list, and the first one you posted Skyfi, what would you be looking for for this commission?

Apologies for the poor picture quality of the 2nd one, I can't edit it on my phone!

Cheers

The first and third look to be made from fairly standard molding components (base a cove moldings). You can find a lot of stuff at you local building stores, and might even be able to source the flex molding which works well for doing curved walls as opposed to straight edges and angles.

The second one would need a bit more work...but simple enough to use PVC pipe and PVC sheeting (so you can use a solvent cement for the strong bond). Table saw to section the pipe, hole saw on a drill press to do the circular notches and then either files or an occilating saw to cut the firing slits (along with a jeweler's or cooper's saw to rough them out).

Granted, having the tools and the time are part of the formula too...

yeah its pretty fancy smancy. curious why the fella took it off that tau forum. wondering if maybe got in trouble over it or something. I really dknow.

I don't have the 3d files he drew it from, but I could look into how to try to figure out an economical way/try my hand at making one and see how much time it takes and I will hollar back.

If you find a reasonable offer in mean time, by all means jump on it, might as well research this for my own uses/casting anyways

I feel like PVC would be way too much of a PITA to work with. One could probably find a source of recyclable polystyrene of appropriate diameter to cut this stuff from I would think.

Thanks for the offer, be sure to PM me if after researching you're still interested in commissioning, I'll keep this thread updated as to whether I've found a commissioner and I've recieved the Aegis Defence lines.

Two ideas:
1.) modern walls like these by Antenocitis Workshop:
http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/jersey-barriers.html

2.) Modern cargo boxes by different manufacturers, e.g. Micro Art, Antenocitis Workshop etc.

Too bad these are too high:

3.) Warmill and others make wooden barriers:

See also this thread for Eldar ADF, maybe fits as well:

I agree with you on the Energy wall one, it looks really good! I've seen that Eldar one before, the problem is Tau don't really have anything that can improvise as Terrain, Apart from Drones which aren't really big enough.

Those Modern Walls could work, They aren't really 'Tau' Enough but are similar to those in the first and third pictures.

Are you still going to do your Tau now Kroothawk?

Oh the bright side now we have a quad gun proxy with the quad ion cannon.

I was thinking doing some drop shields like that infinity energy barrier, but i have no clue where to get laser cut hex grids on colored plastic/acrylic.

any ideas?

I like the rounded image. If you have a 3d modeler you could use this. http://www.shapeways.com/

Ive been thinking along the same line as you with regards to wanting some form of defensive line for my tau.
I think the issue with a Tau ADL is that Tau are not a static defence type of troop.
IMO any form of ADL would be air deployed if you look at the forge world gun drone turrets for example. They also use shield technology a lot too.
I think that with a little bit of modelling the gun drone turrets would make quite good bases for an ADL. using short lengths of Perspex to link them together and represent force fields.
Fluff wise, pathfinders would infiltrate and use positional relays to mark and call in the Orcas which would drop the shielded gun turrets in position, once located the generators link together to form a defence line.

I actually bought Mr Dandys Mechanoid wall. I really like it and would give it a 8.5/10
