Hello fellow Dakka-noughts

I'm Jayke and have a severe HATRED for painting, thus in the 11 years of gaming i have under my belt i have only painted 3 Armies. Ogre Kingdoms where my 1st, Demons of Nurgle my 2nd and Blood Ravens most recently, which I actually blogged on here!

This hatred has meant that i have accumulated several unpainted projects. I'm tackling the 1st of these in this thread. EMPIRE.

SO, my inspiration on this is that my friend (Matt) (and main gaming buddy) is starting Beastmen at the end of this month and is buying the 1st 500 points at Warhammer world. Our idea was to "Tale of 2 gamers" these armies, both paint set points lists up in small chunks, starting with 500 points. So i made the list up (which is currently being reviewed in the WHFB Army List forums) and am intending it to be painted to a GOOD (not 'Eavy Metal) standard ready for gaming when he's painted his.

Most of my characters are Kit bashed and the basic fluff for the army is that they're a boarder line defence town, tasked with defending the coast of the empire (off shore of course) from dark elf raids, which they've gotten very good at. however the towns people where getting frustrated as their leader was very un-generous, and they never got nay supplies. with the threat of being dethroned he ordered everyone on this military town some new uniforms, which although new and good quality, where pink and blue. Not very threatening... so after some subtle manipulation by a certain shadow wizard they mutanied, killed the leader and are now marching through the empire as the wizards personal army.

So heres the 1st update. Its just my 1st 5 halbadiers. But my friend doing the beastmen also said as he progressess hell upload pictures to this aswell :-)

Just been doing my 10 great swords :-) ill upload a pic as soon as theyre done :-) just got to paint the scrolls and the skin and theyre done :-) then just 15 more halbs till my 1st 500 is done :-)

Hi there, I'm Matt, and I'm the other half of the 'tale', just posting the pics of my Beastmen so far:
Here's the Bray Shaman, the gor and ungor I have painted so far.

They are the Wintergor, hence the snow bases. I wanted to do the ungor as raiders, purely for variety (that's the whole point of this army, something that I can play around with rather than having a single set list), since they came in the battleforce. Unfortunately with short bows and the new skirmishers rule I don't think they'll play as well. So I've given them spears and shields too, so I can use them as either if the need arises.

Worked out the Symbolbfor my banners.

It will fit with my background whenni post it

Right. Just finished rhe 2 knights i was working on and the rest of the cannon crew.

They still need basing but im just trying to do what i can atm due to other priorities taking up time...

great collection of models you have there, considering you dont like painting, Im not much a fan of it either, but im hoping that if I can get better at it I might even start to enjoy it.

Yea ive noticed that having a goal reallu helps the projecr come along and when your painting an army you like (ie empire for me) you really do enjoy it (or at least dont mind)

Finally an update for you all...

ive skipped ahead and have finished my 1000 points

so here it goes:

My 1k additions. It's 20 warhounds, a Gorebull and 3 of the 6 pictured Minotaurs...

Matt again. Since I'm stuck in that space between having finished my 1000 points and not having enough money to get my next batch of beasts so I decided to get my other character models painted up. I have a Beastlord and a Great Bray-Shaman (Well Malagor without the wings). Best of all, I don't know how many people know this but GW have stopped making the old Beastmen BSB model and it costs like £50 on ebay which is... hah. Luckily when I was looking through my old bitz I found, by total chance, an old Khornegor Standard Bearer (pics of what this oooold model looks like below) I converted it into a BSB for my Wintergor using a new axe hand and a new banner head as well as covering the worst of the Khorne symbols. I wanted to make the BSB stand out so I decided to give him a banner looted from Jayke's Empire and the results are below. Also I think that one of his Warrior priests might have ended up on the wrong end of the Shaman as there's some robes and a skeleton on that staff that didn't come from thin air

Jayke here; nice to see Matts models going on still. Just seen today, and very excited for our 1k game, hopefully i do as well as our 500pts

Anyway, sorry no updates from me recently, ive just not had anytime to keep painting this month but will get some ASAP.

I may in ode to Matts newest conquest get my Lord, BSB and Master Wizard painted up. so not to get too far ahead like last time.

(untill then ill have to keep painting 40K :/)

Hello all, Jayke again

Here with a big update for the blog. Ive painted my 500 points (well 400, its a long story) and my 3 characters.

Ill start with my rebuttle to Matts Character upload, First up is my (Heavens) Wizard Lord. the picture doesn't REALLY show but his cloak is a light sky blue. You'll notice with my shadow wizard on the first posts im doing the cloaks to make them obvious what lore they...do?

next up is my BSB, kinda standard really, a kit bash as all my non wizard characters are Kitbashes.

and finally my Empire General. Yes he's wearing the sorting hat from harry potter, but that's simply because as a rule i tend not to play with that sort of character... that is until STORM OF MAGIC when i whip a Wizard hat on him and make a kick ass fulcrum defender.

the next posts are my 10 extra great swords and 5 extra halbadiers. Both Matt and myself for this juncture have added a character and core to the lists. i have also painted 11 archers which i will post WIP shots of, as they are currently being based.

for the last 100 points it will either be a Mortar and crew, or 5 pistoleers.

And finally, Matt and myself will be working on fluff and background for these armies which well add when were done.

so on that note, i present my Empire, and "May the tower guide you always"

Jayke again. Whilst im waiting for my washes to dry on my archers bases and my mortar i thought id make a themed objective marker for a custom game between Matt and myself.

Ive spent today finishing off my mortar and archers (which are all now finished.) Ill get pics up tommorow for you alk.

Ive also decided to switch 20 of my halbadiers into swordsmen. And add 6 more along side an ogre unit filler (which ive kit bashed together)

Now i havent decided if my swordsmen will be mercs or just the same as the army. So the ogre is eather a merc ogre holding theyre payment or the armys coin master (in my background theyre travelling)

But ill let you see and tell me what you think.

So following are my new WIP unit and my completed (yes COMPLETED) 1500 points of Empire.

So after Matts told me his army will reach well over 3000 pointz. I decided to add mine up. From the models i currently own.......4000points
So after a couple of SOM add ons ill be on the rafters of the 4000 point mark.

So keep watching. LOTS of pink and blue soldiers coming your way.

Just worked out my next few painting scheduales aswell and theres a few new suprises.

I must ask though... should i paint my swordsmen and my upcoming "reiksgaurd knight" as the army cokours or as mercenaries?

Hi all it's Matt. Recently I've been painting mostly more standard troops so nothing worth posting pics of. However today I finished my hell pit converted jabberslythe and I'm keen to introduce her to the world. So here's the pics

So I made the final push and I got everything finished. There's around 4kish points worth there and every Beastman unit in the game (with the exception of the ugly old centigor, update please, GW?) Thought I'd slap the pics up and let you all see!
