I'd heard somewhere (probably here!) that Robin Williams was a fan of warhammer and I was a bit surprised. Surely not that Robin Williams? Probably that other guy, right?

But then I came across an obit for Jonathan Winters in the NYT written by Robin Williams, and in it he mentions his like of painted toy soldiers:
We shared a love of painted military miniatures. He once sent me four tiny Napoleonic hookers in various states of undress with a note that read, “For zee troops!”

Does anyone else have any links to anecdotes or comments about or from Robin Williams about warhammer or other painted soldiers? Did/does he play? What's his favorite faction?

Kinda cool to hear that he likes this stuff!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

While I always enjoy this topic coming up, and the last one is surely past the necromancy step, run a search there are far more than I can remember.

Cool link on the obit with the quote. I had heard Robin Williams' name before on this topic, but to have some level of proof is cool

The quick search didn't turn up anything interesting... Except that Jay of Jay and Silent Bob was also a miniatures painter (and also wrestled with drug addiction)

I've seen threads mentioning other famous types too like Will Smith and Gary Oldman. I think all of them should come out of the gamer closet and do a celebrity charity 40K tournament. Robin Williams can play the Orks from Mork.

we need to have them do a save the 40K event to raise money for all the poor 40K armies that are still behind on updates...

"Hello... Im Robin Williams... You're probably wondering what I am doing interrupting your movie, but let me assure you, it is for the greatest of causes... You see, millions of orks galaxy and universe wide are dying off every minute of every day. This is because they dont have a home. You can help turn this all around by joining the "Save an ork campaign" tm. For just .50 cents a day, you too can help house these lovable creatures back from extinction and provide them with a codex that they deserve... Dont hesitate, call straight away and save an ork... 1-800-SAV-EORK" lmao

Brilliant link, thanks! Good to see some "validation". Eldar. Awesome!

PS, I saw him in San Fran under a fake name "practicing" a bunch of new material at Bimbos in North Beach. This was maybe 10 years ago and man, it was a funny show!

Diesel said on Conan or some other Talk Show when he was just hitting it big that he played D&D.

Here is one interview I found from a quick google search. Very interesting...

I met Robin Williams a ways back.

He is good people.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda and I remember one talk show where he talked about his Call of Duty experience (in a hilarious manner, ofc)

It's funny you say that, because Robin Williams had drug problems in the 70s and 80s.

Dead serious, he mentioned his tabletop wargaming love being a part of his inspiration for Chronicles of Riddick's armies, worlds and such, along with his love of D&D and his love of all science fiction since childhood and then said he collects 'the ork warriors, which are these junkyard mad max guys with serious attitude and scrap tanks', It was on a weekend morning show I watched around the time of the release of the film, possibly T4 or something, with some scrawny flop haired individual interviewing him and trying to then take the piss out of him which was amusing given both Diesel being about twice the size of him and also clearly a lot smarter and quicker of wit. The scrawny dude then said 'so these are those things you make and spend hours painting right?' *snort* and Diesel smiled and said 'Yes, I find it deeply calming and a great way to shake off the weight of a day of being asked inane questions' or something along those lines. He then went on to tell the smirking fringe that he taught Dame Judy Dench to play D&D.

The guy has the name of his longest played D&D character tattooed across his chest. He is one of us...

It would be both fun and difficult to play a 40k game with Mr. Williams , the guy would have me cracking up to much to concentrate.

A few other celebs I have heard rumored as gamers was, Rowan Atkinson and Sean Bean , A brit buddy said he spotted them at some game function in London, not sure if they were playing or supporting their kids, but still kinda cool.

I have heard that Charlie Sean and his sultry female friends have also been known to play D&D.

I also own an issue of Maxim featuring some notable porn stars who enjoy blazing it up and playing D&D as well...

The thing to realize is people, even the rich or famous, are all similar and some of us just enjoy escaping into the world of fantasy. Awesome.

Because, like most people, they game in their living rooms...dining rooms or dedicated game rooms, not in stores. Unless the paparazzi have hidden cameras in their houses - they won't get those pictures.

Do most people play at their homes? I figured more people play at stores, but that would make sense as far as famous people, but still even Robin Williams himself not ever taking a picture of his army never posting a battle report IDK but you would think if there were 5 celebrities who played there would be 1 picture of them playing.
