Has there ever been a better stompy robot than the Destroid Monster from Macross?
No.
No there has not been.
How can you not love the sheer brutality of a battleship turret that walks on two stubby little legs and blows up starships? And forces little Japanese girls to make horror checks just by walking out.
The only way it could be better is if also turned into a spaceship and a robot.
"Anyone who doesn't want to die had better get out of my way!"
SQUEE!
Spoiler:
Alas my VB-6 transformable Monster is in storage but while in Japan I finally did find the 1/200 scale kit. For the princely sum of Y1800 (roughly US$18).
SQUEE!
Unfortunately at 1/200 it's half the scale of the usual 1/100 Destroid kits and not nearly as impressive on the table as it could or should be. But it's still pretty big.
The hull is almost the size of a chimera and with the cannons it probably has the footprint of a basilisk. It towers over the dreadnaught. Alas it's not quite in Knight/Titan territory. Maybe if someone made a 1/100 scale one, or if I get the VB6 out of storage...
So for 40k it could make a nice oversized Broadside, or maybe an alternate Basilisk/other artillery/Manticore.
As a kit it has some neat features, the back folds out to brace for fire and the arms and legs are poseable. The instructions are fairly clear but frustratingly do not indicate what to glue/not glue. I ended up gluing the hips and shoulders or the thing keeps falling over. The barrels also are hard to line up right, I'll have to revisit that on mine, but all in all it makes me quite happy.
And you can get it from Hobby Link Japan for just Y1600!
amazing model (though i would have to agree the guns look just a touch too long) That aside i am tempted to make basilisks and or manticores out of that kit. only issue would be in the fact that your normally hide-able arty becomes very shoot-able when that large.

But for that glorious one moment you can make robot noises and kablam, pow and other noises by pursing your lips and spitting as it fires.
The barrels are just fine,especially for the sci fi realism that is 40k.
(At the risk of being rebuked about how everything Battletech was probably blatantly lifted from Robotech), this reminds me intensely of the Battletech Behemoth/Stone Rhino. Which is incidentally my very favorite of all mechs. So by extension I heart this too.

Maybe mount the main gun pod on top of a Chimara to bring down the profile. Looks like it would fit...
The rest of the kit (with arm weapons) could be used as a large Tau walker.
Nearly everything in original Battletech was lifted from Robotech (itself, a recombination of two different Japanese giant robot animation series -- Macross and Super Dimension Mospeada or something).
The rest of the models mostly came from Dougram Fang of the Sun.
That's why FASA had to drop the original designs and why those "unseen" models are so much better than the stuff the new artists came up with to replace them.
FASA artists did manage to come up with some truly iconic designs, however, like the Timberwolf and Vulture, for the Clans, and the Atlas/ Awesome for IS.
Kevin Siembada is kind of a dick, but I've been waiting for a Macross miniatures game for my entire life.

Its my favorite as well, as you can tell by my avatar. Im currently in the process of hunting down the n scale (15mm) garage kit of it. I know who/where to get it...its a matter of catching him when he has them in stock, which is only about twice a year.
Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too
Bandai Monster - Grandpa, I'm lonely. There's no one to play with.
Matchbox Monster - I know son but your papa is away.
Bandai Monster - What can I do?
Matchbox Monster - Well grandson, I hear that sometimes if you close you eyes and pray real hard to Robo Buddha....
Matchbox Monster - (and send $40 to Hobby Link Japan)... wishes can come true.
Both - RO-BO-BU-TSU DO MU JO SEI GAN JO, RO-BO-BU-TSU DO MU JO SEI GAN JO
Suddenly!
Bandai 2 & 3 - Hello! We're your new friends!
Maximum Firepower!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So yeah, I got 2 more from HLJ bringing the total up to 3, plus the Matchbox version that's followed me around since the mid-80s. And the transforming version I got in China.
If I get another one from the Mini game I'll have 6 monsters!
Size wise I think these are about 33% too big for Robotech Tactics, but the Matchbox one should be about right.
See, the Bandai Monster has the correct length barrels, the other ones extend about a 1/3rd too long. Are they small enough to be used in games of Robotech?
Just came across this thread. Thanks for posting the initial comparison pics. I just received my Monster in the mail. Looking at the sprues I was worried that it was too small for my 28mm mech games. We mix various scales and brands as long as they look good on the table together. but opening the box didn't inspire any confidence that it would be worth assembling.
However, your pics make it look like it should work out well as s medium'ish mech. I'll probably modify the huge artillery guns (gasp...) but we'll see.
KUDOS to the guy who literally thought outside of the box and decided to use those stackable crates as large buildings!!!
WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!
AND CHEAP!!!
Im going to use that ....
Thanks, I'm glad you like them,
A few things about the crates. If you paint them, you need to wash them and then use sprays designed for soft plastic (I like Krylon paints with "fusion" tech) and even then they are prone to scratching if you don't seal them The windows are just paper painted in streaks of blue white and purple. The roofs (and the roads) are made from roofing shingle sheets.
Hot glue will hold the roofs and windows in place.
