A week or two back I started a project to convert a bunch of skaven into the grim future of war.

Thus far these are the four I've completed painting (except for cleaning up the base). Two Plague Monk Flagellants and two Flame Fangs.

Other than a Deathwing squad I got bored with, these are my first painting project in about fifteen years.

Open to comments and critique!

Very cool looking. Look forward to seeing more from this. Especially love the plague monks with "chainspears" I guess they would be called.... for the under empire!

Skaven: 3000 pts
Daemons: 3000 pts
Lizardmen: 4000 pts
Rohan: 2000 pts
Retribution: 70 pts (1-2-1 so far)
Jesus: check

Skaven would be easy enough to insert into the 40k universe as Tau auxiliaries. Jezzails as kroot snipers, Rat Ogres bristling with missile systems for crisis suits, and a Hellpit Abomination with an ion cannon for an arm as a Riptide.

Thanks! I'm quite pleased by those also. I was thinking chain-staffs but spears works also.

I had been thinking kind of along those lines actually. Most of their tech seems to be scavenged from Tau/Kroot due to being a similar size as them. The Rat Ogres are going to end up with lightning claws and chainfists I think though.

Got a box of plague monk sprues today and assembled a few Flagellant Abbots.

And, because I am far too easily amused, a Rat-Flail-Rat. My only regret is not thinking of it immediately.

The Chain flail looks absolutely crazy dangerous (even to the guy using it... so very skaven indeed) and the rat flail is an awesome Idea that I may have to steal!

Thanks! And I know, right?! The whole time I was making it I was like... this is a completely terrible idea but it's so fitting. It reminded me of "sword-chuks" from 8-Bit Theater. The rat-flail actually took several steps. I had to replace the normal chain on the morningstar with a bigger one from the rat ogre accessories so I could fit the tail through the last link. The first time I made it I just had a hind foot glued to the end of the smaller chain but that just wasn't quite cool enough.

Might even be long enough to be considered "chainpikes"...

Finished assembling the last three Flagellants and as a bonus a picture of the completed pack. In case anyone cares, those are Space Wolf bolters and Chaos Space Marine chainswords.

For how they'd be used, "pikes" probably makes a lot more sense actually than staves. Nice!

Progress for today. I tried thinning down the wash but it still ended up darker than I'd like. (Even though skaven camouflage probably involves covering things in dirt and sewage until they look like muck). Though the lighting doesn't help either since it makes the tan and green look about the same in this.

These look great.

You might want to mix and match some parts from these http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Veer-myn.html. Might make your job a little easier.

Thank you!

As to the veermyn, I had no idea such things existed. They do look pretty sweet but I've been enjoying cobbling together my own space skavengers.

The Misselmaus Artillery platform is finally complete!

Conversion bits are from Tau, Ravenwing, and IG if I recall.

Got some clan rats and DE bits in the mail. Completed my first squad (dare I say "cell") of Splinter Rats.

I need to sort something else to do with those empty hands though. The difference in paw size is super obvious otherwise. Any ideas?
