Hello. I'm starting to paint my deathwing and I'm having some fun figuring out how I should paint them.
My first attempt turned out to be the ugliest space marine I ever painted, but the second looks okay (given my lack of experience).

The problem I'm running into is that the purity seals' ribbon color is the same as the armor.
I primed the terminator white, applied a couple of layers of thinned screaming skull, thinned seraphim sepia and ceramite white for highlights.
Sadly Ushabti bone with some Agrax earthshade (which worked fine for greenwing) doesn't make the purity seal ribbons stand out. It's essentially the same color.

Do you have any idea about how I could paint these ribbons ? I attached a picture in case it helps, but I only have a pretty bad phone so it's pretty awful :(

Thanks for your help.

Maybe make the ribbons whiter? Or heck, try something completley different and do black with white writing, that would be different and the stark difference would be a bit eye catching... but then thats just a random idea.
Possibly try going wtih brown base colours and work your way up through the lighter almost sand like browns and make your highlights your bone colour?

I go the opposite route and make them darker, using Bleached Bone with a Gryphonne Sepia wash. (Don't know what that is in the current paint range.) Here's an example:

The ushabti bone is the new bleached bone and sadly it is what I tried to use for ribbons. However, some sepia to darken it before the heavy agrax earthshade might just work.

I use Bleached Bone/Ushabti Bone for Deathwing armor color, along with Sepia wash, and then I use Skull White (White Scars) for the purity seal ribbons, this is only my method for Deathwing.

I do my ribbons in flesh colors, first, and then shade with whites and grays.

For my dark angels i encountered the same problem
bones white seals look nice on the green and ravenwings, but on the deathwing I had to go with clean white instead of bone white to pick them out from the bone armour. So instead of basing brown and working up through ushabti bone, I would base grey and work upto pure white.

Maybe you can try to make them browner, like weathered parchment.
