You should be able to enable/disable forums via the control panel. All forums would still be visible by default but I have no interest in the non-40k tabletop games, and there are rather a Lot of them, I feel it clutters up the forum index unnecessarily.

Cheers.

Other forums are easy to ignore, it really doesn't cause anyone any problems. However I definitely brought up personal customisation at one point. I think there were server load issues and the fact that it's a crazy ammount of work for one man to implement.

I don't quite get this statement, it's not like you have to scroll past all the non-40k forums to get to the 40k forums. You have the General Forums which include Welcome, N&R, Tournament Discussion, Dakka Discussion, Swap Shop, Find a Game, and Article Discussion, then you have the Painting and Modeling Section, followed by 40k Forums... Why do you need to disable forums that you never technically come across?

It's not a huge issue for me, but I would use this option, if available. I've been on other forum where in the index view, you could collapse the "Warhammer Fantasy" and "Warmachine and Hordes" sub indexes, as an example.

Probably work

It is also a feature I would happily use.

That's not to say I can't live without it though.

Unfortunately, this won't get implemented. There was a sort of similar thread someone had posted asking if they could ignore threads, and the answer was that it would be too database-intensive to apply that filter on a per-user basis. I presume if that's not applicable here I will be corrected but that was the answer last time.

It's a shame because I too would love that feature.

Really, I wonder if there would be. There's already a mechanism for turning on/off subforums, hence DCM and the moderator forums.

I wonder if you could just have a bitmask for each user with number of bits equal to the number of subforums, and then you toggle corresponding to whether that user has that bit set or not at the time.

If you're querying the database each render for two (or more) booleans to determine the other hidden forums, surely querying a small binary string wouldn't be much worse, performance-wise.

On the other hand, I could see this being more hassle to implement than is worth.

I dunno about the "then it's worth" part. Only Lego could answer that but I suspect it would be a highly desirable feature.

This is interesting, I'm pretty sure this idea dropped like a lead balloon last time it was raised but I can't remember if it was an Admin problem that shut it down quickly or people just weren't into the idea at the time.

Take a look at the KenzerCo Forums

See the little arrow on the right of each subforum heading that let's you toggle them? I would use that if it was offered here.

Yeh the last forum I ran(gone now) used that system. As far as I know it was used by a lot of the members.

When this was last asked, the database was creaking at the edges. Now we are on a much faster system and I have performed huge amounts of optimisations so it is not much of an issue anymore.

The bigger issue is that it is a philosophical difference with how we like to run the forums. We've always preferred to make people dig a little bit, search around a little bit and keep a lot of other things in view on the off chance that you see something that might interest you. This does happen quite consistently as well, with other games and small companies getting attention that they might have missed before. While you could say that the WHFB forums are irrelevant to you as you will never get into WHFB, there is still the odd gem posted there which affects all wargamers. I fully appreciate that 99.99% of the time it serves no purpose to you, but that 0.01% is still reason enough for us to leave it as is.

I fully support you using a custom greasemonkey script to add this functionality if you are so inclined at the very least.
