DA squads, Venoms and War Walkers should have targetted the Flesh Hounds immediately. It takes dedicated shooting to get rid of the unit. There was no way to take out all three assault threats (Flesh Hounds,
LoC and Demon Prince) as was destined to lose a couple of units, but I think he could have at least gotten First Blood.
I think the game could have been a bit closer had he eliminated the Flesh Hound threat as well as placed the Harliestar more centrally located to support his other units which were going to end up being assaulted.
Thanks for the report. Interesting viewing.
Agree on all counts, the
LOC/
DP/Hounds combo works best when people don't focus on the Hounds. I need them to be a sledgehammer, while the two
FMCs fly around vector striking and shooting (I generally don't assault with them, but against Eldar you kind of have to, as flickering fire becomes a lot less reliable). I told him after the game he should have turtled up, and used the Harliestar to defend his own scoring units, and brought the Warwalkers off the flank to remove my Basilisk (as barrage is a pretty big threat to most of the Shadowfield/Fortune abuse units)
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm not as good as Tomb King, so I find it nearly impossible to do full batreps for tournaments, but I figured I could summarize my list's performance at Nashcon.
Nashcon is not a "major"
GT, although it's trying (it probably would qualify for major with historical wargames). This area of the US doesn't have any tournaments that get a ton of attention, which is strange, because Stones River had double the attendees as the
BAO, and is a fantastic event. Anyway, Nashcon is only three games, with custom victory conditions. There are a ton of tables, most of which were quite high on terrain (some of the back tables had lincoln logs, which was hilarious, but it's better than no terrain).
Overall I'd say it performed really well. The Demolisher only made an impact on one game, but in that game it was huge. It always drew fire away from the Basilisk, which generally has more of an impact on the game. The Hounds/
LOC/
DP succeeded in drawing fire away from my scoring units, and usually wrecked a good percentage of my opponent's army (in game 2, I tabled Grey Knights by turn 4, only losing 6 hounds and two wounds off of the
LoC). The Vendettas were useful, as much for their ability to drop Troops on objectives as their Lascannons. I think Guard with a Daemon sledgehammer is an excellent combo, and may make that my primary Army from now on (with some tweaks).
The winning list was Eldar with Tau allies, and I'm pretty sure it was the Wraithstar from JY2's Battle of the Deathstars thread (he also had Broadsides and a ton of War Walkers)
