I have been using GW Thick Plastic Glue for all my minis since I started wargaming a year back. However, this glue is so bad that even the slightest mishap or a person holding it in a strange way leads to it breaking apart. Now my sanguinary guard guy looks like he is calling for help as his bolter arm has fallen off.

Why is the GW glue so bad? It is not to do with my house as the is not so high that it will affect it and not so low so that it makes it brittle. Anyone know any alternatives that are cheap and don't break when you just pick them up accidentally by the shoulder pad and they don't fall to pieces like a train wreck.

Spoiler:

Thanks

It's just cheap and bad rubbish. I use Revell and a friend uses Humbrol, both do exactly what they should with no breakages.

Take it back to the store ask for a refund, they know their glue is rubbish and offer refunds without quibble.

You're talking about the Thick plastic glue right?

I've found GW's Thin Plastic glue to be superb in its performance. Used it on a bunch of stuff so far and it's held up pretty well. Then again, different folks, different strokes. Hope what you've found works!

I've had bad experiences with GW plastic glues. I always use Humbrol, it's only £0.99p a tube from my local model shop for 12mls. It holds really well, and will almost never break.
Revell works well too, however I found it to be too runny for my taste. It does hold well too.

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

I use the Testor's Model Master if I need a gel type plastic cement for something; otherwise I use Plastiweld. It's a liquid glue that partially melts the plastic together and the resulting join is as strong as the plastic. Unlike the gel glues, it doesn't push out of the joint and for long seams, you can just press the halves together and touch the applicator brush to the seam in several places and let the capillary action run the glue through the joint. Works a treat for warped sprues where you need a clamp to hold the two halves together. Unless you use way too much of it, it fully cures in less than 5 minutes.

In general I thought it was fine, but one of my scenery pieces completely fell apart yesterday as I was sorting out my hobby corner.

I'd stopped using the thin glue about two months ago as literally nearly everything I've dried with it falls apart. Its odd because plastic glue should melt the two sides and form a nigh on unbreakable bond, but in all cases the glue seems to have dried like superglue does on plastic, crystaline and brittle.

At this point I am pretty much ready to give up on them, I had hoped the statue that fell apart had been put together with the thin glue, but I am pretty sure it wasn't.

They can't be all bad mind, as I have used it almost exclusively over the past two years, and most of it is fine as you'd expect. However thin glue has been bad the last three or four times I got it, and kept clogging the nozzle, so I'm just using thick glue at the mo.

If I see any more breakage, indicating it was more than an off batch I will need to find alternative glue. It's a shame, my fave Poly cement was a red Uhu one, with a brush applicator, but I've sadly not seen that in years.

Humbrol poly cement, in little tube akin to an oil paint tube, or a toothpaste tube in style, costs £1.09 in my local art store and I'm sure that theyve added a chunky mark up to that hehe!
Regardless is cheap and works just fine, toothpicks needed (or something similar) for precise application

Everytime a plastic glue thread shows up, someone will come into it praising that stuff with a picture then a bunch more will show up eventually all praising it as well. Like a parade celebrating it.

I just use good ole' testors red tube stuff.
It worked on model cars when i was a kid and it works like a charm on my GW plastics. I have NEVER had a proble with that glue when using it on plastics.
Now there are different types of plastic out there. Some of the really hard plastics wont take Testors, then you have to use super glue.
Personally ive never used that Revell stuff, but Revell makes plastic model kits and they have been doing it since the 60s so its probly pretty good stuff.

Oddly I brought some of that Revell today on this threads recommendation.

well like me your in the US and chances are you've never seen the stuff (not a single store here carries it, don't know why) but every pro has recommended it be it scale models or miniatures.

There is no reason to EVER buy a thick plastic glue. Plastic glues are solvents meant to bond the two pieces of plastic together. The sticky substances in thick plastic glues get in the way of a proper bond and take longer to dry.

A good thin or watery plastic solvent applied with a fine tip applicator or a brush will give permanent bonds with a fraction of the dry time of any "Thick" plastic glue.

If you need a glue that is thicker in order to bond irregular surfaces, get a gel super glue.

Good job. Our work here is done then.

The one minor problem with the Revell: Contacta Pro is that sometimes the little nozzle gets clogged. It's an easy fix though. Just get a lighter or a match and hold it to the end of the nozzle to clear out the blockage. Of course the obligatory warning about working with applies. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE, USE IT!

I use humbrol liquid poly.
I've used it since the mid eighties and never had a problem with it. Plus it's dirt cheap
