I'm looking for either a well written tutorial, with pictures, or a decent video with subtitles or indicators of which paint is being used.

I'm just taking a small break from Salamanders, and wanting to pan out, and start a small Chaos warband. I figured that out of all the traitor legions my favourite is the Night Lords, but I can't find a good tutorial for them. The colour I want is the traditional deep blue with the lightening - so if anyone can provide a tutorial or at least a well-written list of colours and steps I'd be much obliged.

Do you have an airbrush? If so, i start with a basecoat of Signal Blue (VMA), then a zenithal highlight of French Blue (also VMA). If you want, you can do a further very light highlight of Light Sea Blue, but i prefer mine darker. I paint the gold details with Vallejo Liquid Gold, wash recesses with Reikland Fleshshade (GW) and highlight with Ironbreaker (GW). Its a bit bright but i think its the best gold on the market. Lightning bolts are just done with any white (preferably Ceramite White by GW as it gives good coverage) and youre pretty much done. Red done with Khorne Red(GW) wash Nuln Oil (GW), then highlight with Mephiston Red and a fine highlight of Evil Suns Scarlet (I think). Hope this helps

Hmmm, no I don't have an airbrush - though I think I may invest in one in the future. I was thinking myself, for the blue at least, a base-coat of Kantor Blue then simply highlighting that with Altdorf guard blue, and then Calgar blue. My only problems are that A) I'm not sure if I can highlight straight over a base-coat and B) I'm not sure if my highlights will be too light for the deep blue I want to get.

The rest of your thread was very helpful - I'll give the gold method a go, as it may be better than the one I'm using currently, and I think i'll give the red a go, as it seems the Nuln oil wash would make it a bit 'grungy'.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Still need to detail them with a lighter blue alongside of the white. So far this is what I have going with my Night Lords.

Kantor Blue
Mephesiton Red
Skull White
Boltgun Gray
Warlock Bronze and Dwarf Bronze....go with Warlock Bronze

Yeah that sounds like it would work very nicely if you're worried about the light highlight, you could go over with Guilliman Blue glaze mixed with a tiny bit of Nuln Oil maybe to just soften it a bit while keeping it blue

Also, the gold is more sort of aesthetically pleasing than "fluffy" cause I know they're meant to be like terror-mongers and have really dark armour and stuff. So if you want yours to be fluffy I would not go with VLM Old Gold as it is fairly bright

@Eldercaveman - Thanks for being wonderfully sardonic there, but I already searched Google before posting this thread, and the tutorials on there just weren't what I was looking for because they either didn't give me the effect I desire or they don't give me an idea of the paints I need to get. Thanks anyway

@Jihadin and Skillingspree - Thanks for the advice, I'll look into washes and your pictures were a great help Jihadin - I'm looking for something just slightly darker than your's, but your list will help a great deal.

Thanks all.
