Just starting a Dark Angels army with the goal following the codex as close as possible. The only twist is ill be using Olive Drab as my base and weathering the models so the look slightly more realistic.

Anyway this is the first model i've painted. A Rhino from 3rd company for squad 6. I didn't match the greens exactly (local shop was a bit short on selection) which lets it down quite a bit, but as a trial run I can live with the results.

Please let me know what you think and any advice you might have to improve the weathered look. I have some tamiya weathering stuff but haven't plucked up the courage to try it yet.

The "Dark Angels" transfer on the top hatch...well it was only a label on the transfer sheet not intended to be a transfer used in its own right.

Good job for your first model, painting a vehicle can be pretty daunting if you've never done it before.

I will give you some tips though:
You missed a ton of little details (the headlights, periscope lenses, rivets, etc.) that if you threw a little paint on, would really spruce up the overall look of the model.

The decals are a nice touch, but there is quite a bit of silvering around them. Read this and it will help you improve the look of your decals in the future.

The paint is a little rough in some areas. If you didn't use an airbrush, check this out. Lots of good stuff to read there.

Lastly, if you haven't been completely sold on Dark Angels, I know some regular space marines that might be right up your ally. If you want olive drab as a main color and things to be a little more on the "realistic" side, check out Raptors . They are an awesome chapter that is probably as close to "actual marines" as you're going to get in the 40K universe.

I Know that, but as I mentioned I'm going for "realistic" and the extra text is something i like the look of.

Thank you for the tips. I agree completely about the details I need to go back in and pick a few of them out. The decals should blend in a bit better when i do a matt varnish but I haven't gotten to that yet, but both those articles where good reads.

Adding a coat of matte varnish over decals that have silvering will only make them look worse. Trust me, I speak from experience.

Nice. But a little bland for my taste.
