Hey guys so I had tried to paint a Stug using GW colors and it didn't work out at all. So today I went and bought Vallejo paints and followed the video tutorial on flames of war YouTube channel. I think it turned out awesome! I'd love to know what you guys think!

Nice job! Good 3-color camo, especially for your first try. It's a hell of a lot easier to get closer to the historical colors with Vallejo Model Color than it is with the GW line. The GW colors just don't really work well for that (the same goes for Vallejo Game Colors as well of course).

Yeah I've been making that discovery lately trying to paint my Hungarians.
I really need to just bite the bullet and buy the vallejo paints, but I just don't have the money right now.

@Hordini
Thanks for the positive feedback! I'm rather excited about how they turned out. And I agree completely the Gw colors just didnt come close to how accurate these vallejo colors are, they are exactly what I was looking for.
@MrMoustaffa
Yes I tried to use Gw at first it's worth just getting the suggested vallejo paints they work great and not bad price if you go to a hobby lobby.

Great job! Very impressive.
I bought into Vallejo and have never gone back to GW (with the exception of the Washes!).

Thanks guys for the positive feed back! I think they turned out pretty good, I just followed the video guide on flames of war YouTube channel, it was so helpful.
And yes I use all vallejo except the GW agrax earth shade wash.
I got my first infantry done as well, minus the camp patterns on the cloth helmet covers because I didn't realize I needed those colors I have to drive 20 minutes to the store to get them.. But they will do for now.

Nice job on the Grenadiers! The basing is simple but effective; I think static grass works very well at 15mm.

Hey guys thanks for the comments! Glad you like it I finished the whole platoon today so here's some more pics of that. I have open fire coming in the mail as well today so it really drove me to finish this platoon so I have a clear painting log for open fire!
@Wittman79
For the bases I started with Elmer's glue covered in sand, let it dry, then put another layer of glue and sand. This got rid of the cast on edges of the bases of the individual men. I then sprayed it black, then painted Steel Legion brown on it then dry brushed tallarn sand. For the flock I put a layer of Elmer's glue down then used Woodland Scenics burnt grass flock and I got this result. I really recommend woodland scenics flock it is top knotch and I only had to do one layer of flock for that result. Hope this helped! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Very nice. I have a half track half finished in similar colours. I did follow the video tutorial, but I didn't have the vallejo colours, so I had to mix my own from revel and GW.
Just a quick question, do panzer grenadiers and their tanks have to be camouflage, or did they also use the stock grey colour?

The three-color camo was standard from '43 to the end of the war. The tawny yellow/tan color(dunkelgelb) was the factory color. Crews added the brown and green stripes/patches in the field.
Grey panzers were an early war thing. Blame Hollywood for misleading so many people. You're welcome to paint your models how you like, of course. But I think the tri-color scheme will grow on you. It's much more practical, not to mention fun to paint.

@LazzurusMan
Thanks for the comment and I'm gonna have to agree with Fisher King I believe early war was when they were the grey color, but I am no expert just educated guessing from what I've read and heard. Plus the yellow like said by fisherman is way more fun to paint and looks very cool.
Thanks for the get well wishes, healing going well after the first week I'm getting a bit more mobility below my elbow and I was actually able to paint! It took longer but it turned out okay. I had ordered a tiger while on bed rest I figured it would give me something to do when I finally can paint and its my favorite tank in the German army. So when it came I couldn't help but assemble which was difficult considering I was using mainly my left hand but it came together well! Lovee the model. Today I was able to paint it up and am quite fond of how it turned out, I also put the first middle stone coat on the open fire StuG's. but the tiger took all of my attention I just couldn't resist it. It is a very heavy model and solid build it really is one of my favorites., here's some pics hope you enjoy and I should be painting more as the healing continues!
Thanks,
Cory
P.s. sorry for all the pictures but I'm not gonna lie I had quite the photo shoot with him

Really inspiring work, I have many vehicles yet to do and this gives me hope that one day I'll be able to do something about it. Also that book, while gruelling at times, is an excellent read. Shirer really is one of the pre-eminent Nazi-era historians.

Hey guys I have finally gotten my motivation to paint back! And have committed myself to at least doing one infantry team a day! So for last night and today I got two done, I did a third as well! I'll hopefully keep updating this everyday as I try to stay on track with my goal! I hope you guys can encourage me to stay on it and like my results!
What I have been doing was painting them on their pop sickle sticks with once all men are done gluing the team to their base. I plan to do all the bases for each platoon at once. I also figured out how to do the splinter camo pattern and got the paints for it so I added that to my previously finished platoon and now on these guys as well hope you like it!
Today's progress!

@jack_Death
Thanks man, I appreciate the comment!
Okay so my friend and I played 3 games over the weekend I ended up losing two out of three, the final one because I tried to attempt to assault Un pinned us paras, in woods, bad idea. Over all very fun, I learned that infantry I'm assault armed with pazerfaust destroy tanks and PAK 40s kick Rule question what happens when you assault a bogged down tank? To you auto kill and then consolidate?
Also looking for places to buy cheap, pre painted terrain, that sort of matches the tiles that come in open fire. Thanks for any help.
Also looking on advice on what book to get I'm thinking bridge by bridge, any body have thoughts on it? Wasn't it just recently updated?
I'll get painting again soon!

Hey guys just a small update today I finished my first grenadier platoon from the open fire set! Now I just need to base them then ill have two grenadier platoons ready to play with! And ill have a third one to paint up once I want to expand from open fire! Next on the painting queue is PAK40s! These are one of my favorite units in game their anti tank ability is enough to cast fear into any allied tank. I also love the model!
Sorry for bad pictures I just finished the command team 10min before work so I could only snap a quick picture, more will come later tonight or tomorrow.
At my local store I picked up the wargames illustrated covering the release of the Japanese. Love the magazine will probably get a subscription, highly recommend. I also picked up a D8 for my DnD character that's why it's in the photo.
