Hey, so I am looking for new paints for my custom chapter and need to paint a dark green scheme but seeing the price increases coming and generally finding other paints cheaper and bigger I was wondering how do you guys (who paint with non GW-paints) know what to buy or use? Stupid question but I am not very good at using my own inititiative when it comes to paint schemes and most often like to follow GW's schemes as they turn out quite good. Should I just go for look i.e. just buy something that looks like dark angels green.

I notice a lot of people use Vallejo paints but I have no idea where to start with non GW paints.

I use Vallejo model color. i buy them at Hobby Lobby for 3.25$ per bottle. Warstore has swatches of them on the site or you can just bring the old GW color and match them up.
