Has anyone read this book? I have just finished it and I have to say it's my favorite IG book I have read so far.

Not only it gives us rare treats like the birth of a Baneblade, the main character has a well-developed background and you actually want to support and see the little guy succeeding, the support cast all have interesting personalities instead of being just drones shouting "FOR THE EMPRAH!" every 5 seconds, the combat sequences aren't "enormous" but well-developed, kept to the essential with plenty of action and I never felt it derailed into sheer fanboyish, and best of all, the Orks.

I haven't read Orks talking in such a long time, and they aren't even in a comical style, oh no, here they look the stuff out of nightmares they really are. Being from the "Blood Axes", those with coward stuff like taktiks and recownasense and camo'flage led to very interesting situations I'm not used reading in BL books.

I'm curious if anyone else read this book and if enjoyed as much as I did. I really can't recommend it enough for fans of the IG, Adeptus Mechanicus or Orks!

I greatly enjoyed the book.
The workings of a Baenblade assembly line I especially liked. It may merely be the prolog but to me its extremely fascinating. THe combat was not apocalypse size to give it a scale but the battles were well done (I think).

I personally only disliked the "past" sections dedicated to the main character but even as I read through them it helped to understand him more. Even the Baneblade itself was a character unto itself which was epic in its own right, it was not just some giant machine, it was practically a living breathing character with a history, a personality and more.

I'd be impressed if the author had given thought to the logistics of trying to operate a four bajillion ton tank on anything other than reinforced, paved ground or solid bedrock.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Anti gravity devices, like the ones built into Servo Skulls or Landspeeders. Or Titans. Basically magic.

A techpriest did it, basically.

More on topic, the concept did somewhat pique my interest; the Macharian Crusade was one of the first pieces of fluff i stumbled upon for 40k, and found it quite interesting, and I'd relish a well-written novel set on the ground, rather than the more abstract history book style I've read previous.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

You know, with the weight distributed over the track surface baneblades have, its nothing even our modern roads and normal terrain couldn't handle.

The Baneblade might actually be the most sensibly designed tank GW has made.

I read some opinions after I finished and it seems the past sections were a 50/50 mix. Either you liked it or you didn't. I liked because it gave me a suspense, even if it's "fake" because he just waited until the end to explain what really ocurred that night but I was kept guessing why it happened. I enjoyed the suspense.

And yes, the Baneblade itself is one heck of a character

Oh cool, been looking for more Imperial Guard stories.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

My experiences with unknown authors and their books of warhammer universe is fantastic. "Pawns of chaos" and "Dead men walking" proved to be among the best books of black library that I have ever read. If you say that ''baneblade" is a good read, then I will try it just after I will finish reading all books that I have ordered in advance.

Interesting, so I take it I'd basically be looking at Bolo in the 40k universe?

Might have to look into this.
