So I have been thinking which race is the most popular in 40k? Now I imagine the space marines will do well but i think there not most peoples favorite race. Now iv split the Sister of battle, Space marines and the Imperial guard up so humans (and post humans) don't trounce the aliens.

So which is your favorite race and why?

My favorite race is the Orks because they can thrive just about any were and are the ultimate race of survivors with there rugged society and straight forward thinking. Also the the fact there ni on incorruptible and are potentially the most powerful race in the galaxy make them all the greater in my eyes. admittedly the Dark eldar come a close second.

Imperial Guard or Space Marines.

I play Tau, I love Tau, but Tyranids take my vote.

my top three probably have to be:

Tyranids
Tau
Necrons

but really anything that's not impereal or orks has a place in my heart.

I had to go for Space Marines because of my beloved Blood Angels. But I will happily admit I much prefer Eldar over most Chapters, Space Wolves are the only others I could think of (so they'd be 2nd if they were separate).

Oh misunderstood what you meant.

The poll is rigged if you look at it like that though.

There are but three Imperial choices, only two Chaos choices, and five Xenos choices.

I tend towards some mixture of the Inquisition and the pointy-eared folk; also were I you I'd title this poll "favorite faction" rather than "favorite race" in order to avoid confusion as to why Humanity has four separate slots, the Eldar have two, and everyone else has one.

Imperial Guard. Most compelling storylines and character arcs. Too often, Space Marines aren't so much characters as they are events. ( They aren't beings that learn and grow; they're something that happens to people.)

I usually end up liking the bad guys in films and videogames but in 40k i wanted to field a good army who are also slightly sinister so i thought da fit the bill. and i also like bulky armour and big guns.

Seriously though, I love orks for their aesthetic, looting habits, and just fun/funny FEEL of the codex. There's something about a pseudo-diesel punk group of green-skinned space barbarians riding around in vehicles "liberated" from any and all enemies.

I'm also rather ashamed that the fething SISTERS OF BATTLE are currently out-voting orks... That's just... That's just sad.

I voted space marines only because to me they are the mortar that holds the genre together. Without them the other factions lose their relevance. Having said that however, I am equally fond of Tyranids, orks and Chaos marines all for their own reasons. It's good to be the bad guy.

I think you mean Imperial Guard there.

Space Marines, outside of the Horus Heresy, are basically a minor, relatively insignificant footnote in Imperial military might.

A single hive world produces more military power every than it would take to destroy the entirety of the Astartes, even assuming a 1000:1 guard:astartes kill ratio.

Yes, Space Marines are a pretty minor footnote. So are Sisters for that matter, but meh.

"My faction can beat up your faction" doesn't prove anything though.

The Space Marines have time and time again been sent at the most fearsome of battles, where the death tolls in guardsmen were atrocious, and proceeded to crush the opposition in a shockingly short amount of time. Such is their role. They serve an important purpose.

Yes, I know Space Marines have had a few victories. But that doesn't mean that they are the glue that holds the lore together for me.
