Subject: Death Guard 1500 list (new to 40k)

Hey,
I haven't played 40k since 2nd edition and am now just getting back into the game after about 15 years off. I'm looking to start a Death guard chaos space marine army and would like advice on my list and maybe some tactical tips to go along with it.
HQ:
Typhus (230)
TROOP CHOICES:
20 Plague Zombies (90)
7 Plague Marines(238)
2 plasma guns, champ w/ melta bombs and Rhino
7 Plague Marines(203)
2 plasma guns, champ w/ melta bombs
7 Plague Marines(203)
2 plasma guns, champ w/ melta bombs
ELITE:
Hellbrute (105)
Hellbrute (105)
5 Chaos Terminators (216)
Mark of nurgle, Reaper autocannon, Champ w/ chainfist and combi-flamer, 2x powerfists and a Rhino.
HEAVY SUPPORT:
5 Havocs (170)
Mark or nurgle, 2x Missile launchers w/ flakk, Heavy bolter and Lascannon
TOTAL 1500
I plan on Typhus joining the termies for protection in the Rhino or possibly deep striking this unit and giving their rhino to another plague marine squad. The termies are the hammer of the army really. While The Plague marines with the rhino act as a firebrigade/ mobile reserve (rushing to hotspots) while the rest slowly advance to midfield. Havocs are for Anti-air and anti-armour. Hellbrutes are for Anti-armour as well. Plague zombies will hopefully soak up a round or two of fire. Plague marines are for objectives and fire support. IMO I think i have all bases covered as I wish this army to be as flexible as possible.
At 1750 points I would add either a Nurgle daemon prince with wings or 6 Nurgle bikers...at 2000 I would add both and maybe try to fit in another 5 man havoc squad with cheaper heavy weapons.
Please let me know if this list is at least semi-competitive. Im not looking to powergame to win tournaments and crush everyone with an army. Im mostly looking to have fun and maybe win a few games as a bonus. Any suggestions are most welcome...But please note that Im on a budget and don't want to add any really expensive units such as land raiders, helldrakes or obliterators to this list. Most of my plague marines will be dark vengence marines converted with the forge world kits with some extras bitz from ebay.
The hellbrutes are there because even though they don't have the mark of nurgle and perhaps aren't that effective..I love the model and they are cheap to buy (dark vengence got me one and ebay will get me another for $20 or less).
Cheers

Here is what I'd suggest from experience with nurgle. It's going to sound like a lot but its not really.
I don't like zombies so I'd drop them
Turn 3 squads of 7 PM's into 4 squads of 5 for extra special weapons, they're so survivable that if 5 would of died so would 7 so make 4 squads so they have more options.
Havoc a are good, I would definitely try and get in a squad of obliterators though too, possibly drop the 2 brutes and the zombies and you could get 2 squads of 2 obits. Trust me, they're awesome and I'm sure would do more damage than the hell brute.
The list is definitely solid though, maybe play a game and proxy stuff to see wht you like? Post the list again if you make any changes

Couple of points
- Terminators cannot take rhino's due to their bulky rule so give it to a squad of PM
- Terminator champ's chain fist seems expensive i run the champ bare and upgrade normal termi's, dont really like chain fists. 3 x PF is fine as you will be hitting rear armour.
- Zombies are underwhelming
- Havocs are a bit all over the place, flack missiles are a huge points sink. and the HB will be wasted 80% of the time. I would go for 4 x AC or 2 x AC, 2 x LC.
- Reaper autocannon is a waste of points IMO, I never shoot it enough to make it worth while, 5 x combi weapons i find better.
- You are lacking anti air, i would swap the 2 x helbrutes for either oblits or 4 x AC havocs.
Hope these help!

Looks solid similar to How I run death guard. The HellBrute has been FAQed to only 100pts, the termies are ran Almost identical I just add combi-melta. I Find plasma to be meh at best(gets hot cant charge after firing)

No unit may charge after firing a rapid-fire weapon. Relentless units may fire heavy weapons as if they have Not moved this turn

KU'GATH re-read your relentless rule. It clearly states "They are allowed to charge after firing .... rapid fire... weapons." Edit: After reading this thread a bit more re-read your Gets-Hot rule as well. Termi's can't take Rhino's, nor can they take them as an option. Put your plague marines in them and drive them midfield to just camp in cover and annoy people to feck. Reaper Autocannon *can* be useful, it depends on whether you're deepstriking, riding a vehicle or foot slogging. CF on the champ isn't a good idea, stick it on a scrub if you really want to keep it though.

People will tell you to get heldrakes to be competitive, but if you have extra bits then think about making 5 spawns with MoN.
keep in mind that helbrutes have access to a few loyalist weapons such as plasma cannon, and multi melta. If you find yourself having difficulty fighting th/ss termi then try plasma cannon and the fact that helbrutes strike at its initiative with dccw. It will be difficult to take advantage of a multi melta since you wont have drop pods. might want to consider sticking coffee straws into multimelta and putting chaos gargoyle muzzel heads on the tip to make a tl lc instead. An extra hml can serve as a ml for the helbrute.
Split the zombies to hold 2 rear obj. Put them in reserves if you find that they die too easily or put them back to 20 men.
Consider a heavy flamer on termicide.

Hey thanks for the Great tips!
ZOMBIES:
I'll try to run a unit of 30 zombies or would two units of 20 zombies (2 boxes of whfb zombies) be better and more flexible? less survivable for sure..but they can swarm two different objectives or tie up possibly two units in endless combat.
HAVOCS:
Switching the havocs to 4 autocannons or possibly 3 +1 Missile launcher without flakk. I'll also add two more to the squad, making a squad of the magical number 7. Also are hight rate of fire weapons effective against flyers? needing 6's to hit?
TERMINATORS:
Getting rid of the reaper cannon on the termies. Adding combi meltas and plasma to four termies and a heavy flamer to the 5th. also dropping the powerfists and chainfist. They will be deep striking with typhus.
HELLBRUTES:
Going to be converting the 2 hellbrutes to include reaper autocannon and missile launcher or twin-linked lascannon to enhance range and hitting power .
PLAGUE MARINES:
2 squads in rhinos with 2x meltas each and Power weapons to each champion. 3rd squad will hold backfield on foot with 2x plasma guns and champion with power weapon.
I haven't had the time to write up a new list but I am assuming all this will cost me an extra 100-200pts or so. Might have to cut out a hellbrute to make 1500 pt games.. I'll post a new list this weekend.
