So, the other night I was thinking to myself, "I want my Farseer to look like a Rogue Psyker. Someone who braved death, and lived, who took trophies, who went against the majority, and outlasted the minority. I want him to look unique," so I put together a design that I was comfortable with. Something that I haven't seen before, something to make him look like a true Corsair.
I started with the idea, that he was fighting in battle often, and the robes of a Farseer became somewhat.. Bothersome to him. He was a warrior, a front-line member of the crew before his ascension to Captain. He was a Farseer rather young on the path of the Seer, just after ascension from Warlock to Farseer. Experienced, but a radical, thus why he ended up joining Lorien's side in the Civil War on their Craftworld. I figured he would have either A. Traded, or B. Fought, Dark Eldar in his time since the Craftworld. So I figured giving him some Dark Eldar bits I had laying around wouldn't hurt, and spice him up a little bit. I also had some bits from a Dire Avenger, and a Farseer to chop up. So I sat down, and played with how parts fit together. I happened to have, an extra
DA torso piece, since they all come with an extra one in case you don't want an Exarch and instead just want five more avengers. So I put that, on a Dark Eldar leg piece, and put the Farseer's Ghosthelm on the shoulders of it, using the whip thing arm for a base for his spear. His right hand, was one of the Exarch's Shuriken catapults that, well, I'm sure you've seen them. They're like Shuriken Uzi's with scopes, because he's holding it by the clip with the trigger being by the mag well. I figured it was small enough it can just look like a badass pistol for all I care. Or maybe it's just a REALLY slow firing shuriken catapult. Same range, right?
Warning: Little bit blurry.
Not quite coming together yet, I understand. His head does look like Jimmy Neutron's. Next challenge was to:
A. Offset that MASSIVE helmet, which is usually done by the long, flowing robes of the Farseer, but alas, I put him in armor.
B. Apply that Singing Spear to where the whip is, and chop the whip up for bits later on. (I keep everything. Even things that don't look like they could in theory be useful.)
C. Find a suitable base for him.
Now, when finding a base for him, I looked through by bin of junk, and found a small sprew that a friend had given me, ironically, before he began his Necrons. And I'm not sure what the base was off of, but it was already cast with terrain on it, with a Necron head laying in the sand. So I figured.. Hey, he's playing Necrons. I could mock him with that base he gave me, and say that my Farseer had spent a considerable amount of time scouring sectors for Necron Tomb Worlds. Perfect!
As for the Singing Spear, I.. Sadly, only had some Plastic Glue to work with, which takes forever to set properly, so I was fighting an uphill battle with the spear. The bottom half wasn't so bad, because I could also glue it to the back of the knife across his lower back that comes on the Dark Eldar bottom halves. So it stayed it place, but the topheavy top half didn't quite stay the same. Every minute or so I had to straighten it again because of the pose he was in once he was based.
Now as for offsetting that massive head of his, I started with putting more stuff around his waist to add a little more bulk to the significantly slender Eldar figure. I figured some plasma 'nades and a clip of ammunition would do it, so I added the subsequent bit. Not that he gets plasma grenades, but it looks cool. You never know, fluff wise, he might be a badass grenade-throwing Farseer extraordinaire. Imagination is key.
(Luckily I had a little bit steadier of a hand in this picture.)
Now for the final step to completing the model, finishing offsetting that massive head, and to straighten the bloody spear up a bit so it'll set overnight. I had to eventually, set it properly and put it in front of a small fan so that the glue would dry while I was holding it in place. Future note: Super Glue, for these kind of things. To offset the head, I found an awesome flag in my Dark Eldar sprew that looked tattered, and fit in the left slot on the Dire Avenger chest piece that's vacant. Perfect. I have some ideas already for how I'm going to paint him.
Now, as for painting him, I'll have to do later on. However, I've come up with a mostly solid scheme: The Grey and Orange of the previous models, however in a slightly different pattern to account for the different model pieces we have to work with, with the flag being a shade of blue of some form, preferably a darker blue or blue/teal mix. I'll then put a little of the brass color I have laying around on that crescent moon at the top, and the pole of it, with a suitable Eldar transfer on either side of the flag. I don't actually have the skill to freestyle with a brush yet.
More to come! Post, comment, criticize, throw rotten fruit!
