I am painting some hive fleet kraken termagaunts and I was hoping for some pointers on fading.

I want the red on the carapace to really fade into the black. I feel like right now it just looks like a line.

My technique on these was to paint the carapace black and let it dry. Then i painted a line of red on the edge and draged it out towards the center. The paint didnt really move as I had anticipated even though I was using a wet pallete and even mixed in some water on top of that.

Any suggestions for fading? I want to get a real nice look like in the magazines! lol of course!

And how do the models look? I tried to follow the youtube video titled Quick and Dirty: Hive Fleet Kraken

If you want a seamless transition you can either wet-blend or use glazes. Personally, I think glazes are the best and easiest way to do it.
If you are interested in glazes, read this: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/A_basic_course_in_Acrylic_Mediums

If you want a little starker of "feathering" that a lot of people do tyranid carapace, read this: http://www.figurepainters.com/tips-tutorials/2011/8/15/painting-a-tyranid-flying-hive-tyrant-golden-demon-winner.html
