OK. So I recently had 6,000 points in blood angels and a small eldar army i started stolen. Basically my whole collection of warhammer, among many other unrelated items were taken! (I don't think the thieves meant to take warhammer, they just took whatever boxes they could.........Unless these random people are also hammer fiends like myself.) Despite all the craziness surrounding the theft, it only took me a couple of weeks to start another army... My name is Pat, and I have a Warhammer problem lol.
.
But anyways I have a couple of pics for a start of a nid army. I need help on the base. Do i just do white and white flock? Will that be too bland? I'm thinking something like an ice world. I'm set on my color scheme for the creatures- I just wanted suggestions on a base that would compliment the army. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I like the snow and ice idea, just break it up a bit with some bleached or dried out dead grasses here and there, maybe some lichens that suit the snow theme as well.

I like the look of the paint job by the way!

I am working on my nid revamp as well, and so far, i have some awesome preliminary base ideas. For some awesome lightweight rock mass, go to a menards, lowes, etc, and visit the garden department. Buy a bag of bark mulch. let it dry out, give it a light coat or two of watered down pva, and put it down on the base. Prime it, then with some minor drybrushing and faux snow, you will have snow piling up behind a side or two of the rocks, and give it that sense of realism.

First off, I just wanted to say that I laughed reasonably hard at the situation. Well I laughed more at the way you put it But Glad your not letting a horrible and disaesterous event prevent you from feeding your habit

The basing, I think what unyielding said would be a wicked base, but id love to see perhaps some crystaline structures thrown in. All you would need is a 5 or more sided length of rod/plasticard that you either snap or cut to form some basic shapes that could gut from the earth. Guess it all depends how complex you want to make it.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

I would go light on the Ice... Have more dark rock with light dusting of snow on top. I think if its all blue white it will blend to much. A dull grey should make the models stand out more.

Or thats my opinion.

I thought tyranids didn't like ice worlds: they went into hibernation or burrowed or something.

Excellent time for some fluff in that case! the hibernating zonethropes felt the seismic disturbances of the landing starships and drop pods, waking in fury to summon the hordes! burrowing up out of their catacombs to reak havoc on the unsuspecting trespassers ( I dont know much fluff bout nids but im sure they would be keen to devour ).

I actually think nids that blend into the base could be a good thing going with the whole actual evolution of their camo to hide their numbers. But in terms of looking good, I think Crazymez is probably right, Light on the ice, dark/stoney rock with dustings of snow. Then on the MC's you can give them some crazy bases. If they blend with the bases too well it removes some of the instant detail you can see when you look at the models.

Not really, the Tyranids just tend to like easy biomass, but they will go anywhere. If anything, you would see a hive fleet land on the planet, have maybe half of it's organisms freeze to death, then the hive mind will take 5, and suddenly you'll have a large number of modified variants with a blubbery coating over their bodies to keep the cold off.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. Yeah I think the bases the way they are just not adding anything.

@ Unyielding Hunger- That sounds like a real good idea! I think I may make myself a few of those bases that way and try that. I think aesthetically the contrast would look better with kind of a darker rock with some faux snow over it.

Of course! Just looking at your models though, to give you a final tip, your hooves on the Hormagaunts and Termagants are blue. When your dealing with these kind of basing ideas, your going to have to clip off the main insert for the base. When you do, use your knife and cut it level right under the hoof. Then, when you glue it down on top, add a little extra glue and put on your faux snow to cover it. Add some touch up white on the hoof itself and you'll have one beautiful piece. On a complete side note, you'll also wind up having an entire army that qualifies for putting out on the table as a centerpiece. By the way, I know it will sound odd, but if you grab Gargoyles, keep .32 wire in mind. You can keep your basing theme and the wire won't be noticed much at all.
