I'm almost done collecting a 1500 point list so that I can start playing with my friends, Im sort of looking to get into local tourneys in the future and I'd like some opinions of my list and ideas for competitive and friendly play.

HQ
Typhus 230

Troop
Plague Marine (5 units, 2 Meltas, Combi Melta, Rhino w/ Havoc) 197
Plague Marine (5 units, 2 Meltas, Combi Melta, Rhino w/ Havoc) 197
Plague Marine (5 units, 2 Meltas, Combi Melta, Rhino w/ Havoc) 197
Zombies (30 units)

Fast
Heldrake (Baleflamer) 170
Heldrake (Baleflamer) 170

Heavy
Predator (Autocannon, Heavy Bolters, Warpflame Gargoyles) 100
Predator (Autocannon, Heavy Bolters, Warpflame Gargoyles) 100

total 1487

The Idea is to run the zombies with Typhus as a tar pit/objective contester, Push the PMs as far forward as I can with the rhinos by turn 2 and pop them out to take out Heavys and camp forward objectives, be agressive with the heldrakes use them to support the PM's and run the preds in backfield picking off infantry. The gargoyles on the preds are only because I cant see anything else worth taking for the points I had left over. Is this a decent list for a first time player and how competative would it be?

How many marines are in the units?

I seem to remember it being better for the cultists to not go Zombied as I seem to recall with Zombies you can't have a Capt and Its a great Idea to have another character besides typhus in the unit so you have to choice in the challenge.
Sometimes its better to let the Capt get smooshed and let Typhus slay loads of their troop.

Also Typhus makes cultists fearless so its still a tar pit but with the ability of grounding flying MC's as Zombies can't shoot.

Predators are fast moving but they can also pop in one pen so think about Obliterators as they can deep strike plus better guns and 2+ Armour with a 5++ Inv and powerfists for CC

He is fearless and IC's share their rules with the units they join!

As Zombies they gain the rule so don't have to go with him

The only way to really make sense of and learn the rules is to practice practice practice!

No he doesn't share that.

Feel no pain is a personal rule but things like fearless and hit and run are shared

In one game try a lvl 2 Sorcerer in Terminator Armour with a spell familiar and I think the mark of Tzeench and put him in a unit of Obliterators and deep strike them.

So much damage! Also try the DP with the black mace some time and then assess what each did then compare with Typhus.

Plague Marines: 5 Plague Marines seems few to me, I would try to have at least 6 or 7 for each unit (7 PM is the usual squad size, because 7 is the sacred number of Nurgle, but no one really forces you to do that). Drop the combi-meltas, you already have 2 melta gun, I really doubt you will ever need them.
Consider to switch to Plasma Guns for one or 2 units. I'm not a fan of the Gets Hot! special rule, but your only shooting options (a part for the 2 predators) are Meltaguns, which are too much short ranged to be taken alone. At least one unit with 2 Plasma Gun would allow you to have a little bit more range.

Zombies: Just a personal preference, I do not like them. I prefer the versatility and mobility of Plague Marines inside a Rhino. They cannot run or shoot, and by the time you get in touch with the enemy, the game is going to end very soon. Yes, very tough to move from an objective if frontally charged, but at least that the opponent has Abaddon the Despoiler with 8 Chosens (loaded with Flamers), nobody will be so silly to do that. They'll just kill you from distance with an huge volley of bolter shots. Remember that you are not able to fire it back.

Predators: I don't like Predators with Autocannon and Heavy Bolter. You are paying almost as much as a squad of Havocs to get less firepower. Yes, you are more resilient against small arms... but the opponent just need a one lucky shot (and AV11 side armor does not require that much luck) to let you waste 100 points before you can even shoot with them.
Also I'm pretty confident that HB sponsons + Warpflame gargoyles are more than 100pts, however I do not have the codex at hand. Check carefully the point cost.

I would suggest you to at least consider 2 Obliterators with Mark of Nurgle or a squad of Havocs with 4 Autocannons behind an Aegis Defence Line with a Quad Gun. More versatility in the first case, more firepower in the second

I was under the impression that most people only used the aegis for AA and I already have 2 heldrakes to rule the air. I also love typhus and it feels silly to not take advantage of the zombie rule, and ive been told if im not taking zombies typhus isnt really worth it. I dont really want to downgrade to a nurgle lord

buy IG guardsmen, or fantasy zombies/ skeletons to make your plague zombies if you do not like the cultist models.
