Subject: [Video] Scratch building a Warhound Titan
Sorry for using the non-metric measurements. 40Thou is 40 Thousands of an inch and refers to the thickness of the plasticard. I believe 40Thou is 0.25mm thick and 10Thou is 0.10mm thick.

Thanks for the nice comments. The guy that is making it is pretty good with plasticard and modelling in general. Here are some pics of a Thunderhawk he scratch built

Very nice work. Tremendous amount of detail so far. But I'm curious about the cost. Wouldn't it cost more, considering the time and effort, to build one from scratch, rather than buying one?

That's a very good question. I think the immediate answer is almost definitely yes. Even discarding the buying of materials and tools if you worked out the hours spent (I would say somewhere around 150) at minimum wage it would easily be cheaper to buy your own.
That being said if you put in a couple hours in the evenings and a little more at weekends you could probably cover that in little over a month (which is basically how long this one should take to make). And you also have to take into account whether it is something you would enjoy doing and gain experience from and also receive a large amount of self satisfaction at the end.
There is also a lot of scope to make a much more simplified version. As it is quite a "square" model it would not take long to put together a very basic structure without all the crenelations, articulations and detail. You could probably get something like that done in a week and save a bit of money.

Unfortunately the toes and feet were already constructed before we decided to put the progress videos together. So we just made something which showed the individual parts and how they fit together. We were also quite concerned about making a long drawn out video showing every single part of the process as it would probably be quite boring. If you are unsure with scratch building and using plasticard you always start but trying a few simpler constructs and working up.
Part three of the video is up now
