Hi!

I'd like to paint my army in the colors of Gordon Freeman's suit (-> http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/577/8h6g.jpg/),
but I'm new to wargaming and I don't know what paints (colors) should I use to get a proper effect.

Would you be so kind and help me?

I use a wash-strength bright orange (I use GW's old Blazing Orange) over a white prime, with a thin black wash over the top. It gives a realistically bright orange like Freeman's suit (using a less diluted orange, or more layers of thinned paint give a brighter orange).

For the dark grey, I would use several layers of black wash. Gives a nice deep dark grey. You can see this on the models in the back of the picture below:

And what if I use black (Imperial ) primer?
I could use some non-metallic grey (if I knew one...)

Primer (or even straight black) doesnt usually look good on models, always mix it with something

Also, Imperial Primer is really horrible and possibly useful only for priming, better get Abbadon Black

It is always easier to go light to dark, and always easier to use washes to shade down than to paint highlights. You could paint a Freeman model with just 3 paints - a white undercoat, an orange paint and a black wash.

If you want to use a black primer... then you would have to bring the black up to a grey. I would paint over it entirely with a mid grey, hit it with a light blue wash then a black wash to give it a bit of a sheen. I would then paint the orange areas white, then paint them orange. So basically there is no point in priming black, since you are getting no real benefit from doing so since none of the original black shows through, while with white it forms the basis of everything on the model and allows you to paint the whole figure in about 10 minutes.

You really did the black only with nuln oil on a white primer? Looks pretty good, never thought of it.

Well, with Badab Black, but the same idea.
