Yep, will see what I can find in the garage (it is quite overcrowded, mostly by my stuff).
I may have a go at putty-ing these up (as well as the other putty jobs) tomorrow and see how they turn out.

Ja, the axes are very 2D at the moment, so this will bring them into a, much needed, third dimension.
I found with the missile fins that I can sand down to the plastic at the edge and get a good (relatively) sharp edge.

Yeah, I suppose they are a little. I'll see how much thinner I can make them without breaking them.

I have thinned the handles for the axes (mostly) successfully.
I did shave one of them down too thin and had to make a fresh one, which I again shaved down too thin, so I made a fresh one and that is what you see.
Also you can see the start of the pose for Guardian number 9.
Next up is the putty work, including; the axes, filling the gaps in number 9, sword number 2, the hand on Guardian 9's rifle, and maybe hands and hilts on the other swords...

Thanks Theo.
Which third axe (l to r; 5, 6.3 and 1.2)?
Well, actually doesn't matter which, they all need their curves and edges tidied up, that will happen once they are puttied and I can throw some sandpaper at them.

Ja. Know what you mean, that one needs a fair amount of tlc; the lower curve, need to properly square the bottom and point the top a bit more.

I've thrown a bit of putty about and some of it stuck...
Guardian 9's groin has been filled, needs smoothing, nothing to see here.
Had a go at his hand on the rifle as well, didn't go so well. Turned out much too big. See below.
Will have a look at it in a bit and see if i can thin it out a bit, if not it'll come off and I'll try again.
The axes however, have progressed nicely.
On the left, you can see how they look when I first put the putty on (I used a bit of superglue to aid attaching it).
On the right, you can see what they look like after the first, rough pass of scalpel and sandpaper.
A bit more work to be done on them, to sharpen a few features etc... and then a pass with the fine sandpaper to smooth them out.
What do we think now?

at first i was a bit afaraid of the bubblegum look of the blades... but then my eye shifted to the right pic and... the edges look very sharp (pun intended!) canĀ“t decide which looks best... two way tie between 1.2 and 5 i think... 6.3 is cool too but i am still lacking the real world examples to reall get my teeth into that shape...also... now after the putty work and the filing and shaping of the edges... i think the ratio between blade and handles is way better!

Thanks Vik. Glad you like it.
Did you see the earlier pictures of the other side with the pressure gauge and cog?
Weirdness is very welcome here.

Yeah, most of my putty work goes like that, I can try and get the right shape while it's soft and sometimes it works. But usually I have to do some "subtle" adjustments (with the scalpel, file and sandpaper), and with these I knew I was not going to get close to the right shape so didn't try.
Thanks. I'm glad they are working out.
There will be some added extras to the handles (of some description, as yet unknown ) as they are quite plain at the mo'.

this side here?
i think you made the curves a bit crisper since then, or is it just me seeing things?
and well i am far the lest person to judge sculpting... i am not really even a layman here^^
hmmm... what will these axes be? just blunt objects of mauling peeps to death or some powerweapon-ish device?...
i think that defines the needed additions...

Yeah, that one.
No, not changed anything since then (other than the arm), but because of all the right(ish) angles in the pipes the angle of the camera can change the look of them quite a bit (so it's a much more side on view with the axes that make them look sharper).
I hadn't done any GS or equivalent sculpting before starting this blog, just takes practice and a will to push yourself (once I'd done my Venus de Milo, I have been very happy to push the limits of each sculpting attempt).
I'm still very much a novice in this and it doesn't really help that I'm working with a blunt scalpel (usually reserved for poking and scraping things) as my sculpting tool.
hmmm... what will these axes be? just blunt objects of mauling peeps to death or some powerweapon-ish device?...

And that, is the thing...
1.2 and 6.3 could be either, I think. Whereas 5 is definitely more of an "unplugged" variety.
Still, some sort of grip will be needed on all of them. Maybe even a rivet or two...

@Theo; Maturity is for girls...
and it's possible to see the double entendre in anything really, for example...
Need I say more...
Thanks guys.
I may have rescued the guardians hand on the rifle, it's better than it was anyway.
May have another look at it though, after zooming in on the below picture. I included the hand that was attached to the arm for comparison.
Also, after knocking off the foresight the second time in as many sessions I decided that it needed to be attached in a more permanent fashion, so I drilled through the ring, glued it to a piece of wire and used that to pin it to the gun. That should work better.
And I've also finished the sanding of the axes (alright a few small rough patches are left, but they'll be covered up or made to look like battle damage) and drilled a hole in axe #5.
I shall now look at what additional details to be added (and maybe drill some kind of cross in axe #6.3) and have another look at that hand...

i hadnĀ“t realized you actually scupted that hand... eldar hands of that class are very detailed and you totally fooled me that this was just a GW replacement hand!... by the way... now with that lighrer colored putty hand this arm reminds me of micheal jackson
and the drilled blade totally prooves the point here... so with three more precisly drilled holes you would get yourself at least a cross...
oh and now the foresight actually got half of a crosshair^^

Thanks Vik, I'm glad it passes off as a "real" hand. A little more work to be done before I'm happy with it though.

Yeah, I may attempt a cross on 6.3.

I think I've now finished with the hand. There's not alot more I can do to it and would probably only make it worse if I did.
Hopefully, painting will do the rest (or just show up how bad it really is...).
And, yes I did the cross in axe 6.3. Was very tricky to get the plastic out from the middle of the hole and this led to the angles you can see in the horizontal sections of the hole (Which I will make a feature of).
Now I can think about the handles...

Four carefully drilled holes with a 0.4mm drill bit and then a lot of swearing at a stubborn piece of plastic later and you have a nice hole.
Yep, 6.3 may also become a power-axe as well.
