Hey Ryan_A

I would suggest that you paint the black armour black, I know black undercoat covers pretty well but it leaves a very grainy look to the model which screams rushed job.

I would also thin your paint down a bit more when you're painting Bolters again as it seems a bit thick a lot of the detail has been hidden by this.

The purity seals are fantastic though the scrawl on them is very good, how did you do it? I am never able to pull it off like you have.

Cheers

Thanks! And ya, I tried a few color combinations and I really like ice blue on black, don't have a name for them, but since they are practically Crimson Fists, I will probably call them "ice fists."

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll do that, I have a couple where I did paint them black, which I think does look better.
Ya, I really need to be more patient when painting the bigger parts of the models.
For the purity seal I do a coat of ungor flesh, then paint over that with skull white. I then paint the stamp part of the seal blood red, and paint the middle with a gold. I then get a really small brush (0-25 or 25-0 cant remember which comes first) and get a very tiny amount on the tip, and just do one line a time.

IMO it wouldn't be that you need to paint black over your primer, I would guess it's a spraying issue. Shake your can really, really well for almost a minute, and swirl it in clockwise motions (you hear the ball spin inside the can). At about 18 inches short burst and lateral or horizontal movements should give you a nice smooth spray. I use black automobile primer and my primer goes on smooth.

Thanks! Ill make sure I will do this with my models in the future.

What I think it actually may be is dust. They were sitting out in the open for about 9 months while I was in college, I gave some of them a once over with a fluffy q-tip and they look a lot less grainy. But thank you both for your advice, Ill probably do another coat over the primer for my current models and will follow your instruction for future models : )

Thanks guys!

The primer is smooth and has good coverage but you can always tell the difference to a primed only model and a primed and painted one even if its the same colour, for some reason black always shows it up the most.

^.^ thanks, I'll be sure to paint on all my models instead of just priming, I painted a few and they look much more sharp.
