Had a bunch of metal minis in need of stripping. Just used several products in my cupboard to test them in.

Somthing for the Canadians to use. But I'm sure a lot of bug sprays will work

Deep Woods - OFF! Bug spray removed about 98% percent of the paint in about 2 hours. I left it soaking in the bug spray overnight and only flecks of paint left were in the deepest of crevices.
The only negative I found was it gets your toothbrush gummy, but it does wash off the toothbrush with a bit of soap.

I have tried almost every other stripper mentioned on forums, this one worked ten times better and left no mess, hopefully someones got a can lying around, and a plastic mini to test it with.

Have tested on a plastic mini, no damage or softening. See pictures below.

Pictures

The black necron went black after a stint in some toilet bowl cleaner, and did not strip well at all.
The second necron was in the stuff for about an hour with very minimal scrubbing just to take these pictures.
The daemon was the first model, left over night.

Found a plastic dark eldar, came out great all details, plastic not soft, 99% of paint gone, no sofness to plastic.

DISCLAIMER - not all plastics and bug sprays are created equal, test on sprue , then a model you wouldnt be too sad to see go.

Have not tested on resin.

Original Paintjob

After soaking for an hour and a very quick brushing (His arm came off from the brushing, did in a hurry, total test piece)

After soaking for 11 hours while I was at work.

This has been great, no goopy mess, freely add water, no staining of my stainless steel sink. Smell is very okay to deal with, just make sure to spray it outside.

So you sprayed your models with bug spray and in 2 hours you got most of the paint off, and after letting it sit for the night, you got the rest of the paint off?

Can you take pictures of this?

Soaked them in bug spray. Will update first post to match.

I don't know how it is in America and Canada, but in the UK bug sprays can be dangerous. Infact in enclosed areas they can be carcinogenic so I'd advise caution when using them.

Yeah there are plenty of things to strip paint off metal models.....things that do not have a primary function to kill living things. In the amounts it would take to soak models seems like trouble. SImple green is cheaper and works on plastic and metal and is available almost everywhere. It is also not aerosol.

I have not been able to find simple green in canada. Or dawn power dissolver.

All the warnings are on the can. But indeed caution is great.

Seeing as this spray is intended for being sprayed on your skin. Just avoid breathing it in. I cant speak for any other bug spray.

Interesting! Looks like you got some good results, and I'm always interested in new chemicals for paint removal.

However per-oz, it's a pretty expensive way to strip minis, especially if you're going to be stripping alot of them. I buy a Gallon (128 oz) of Purple power for less than 7 bucks. 5 bucks buys you 11 oz of Off.

Have you tried Purple Power or Super Clean. They both have 2-butoxethanol, the active ingredient that Simple Green used to have (they removed it this year) and as far as I can tell, one or both of them is avaialble in Canada. Basically if you want a good paint stripper for models, look for an industrial strength degreaser with 2-butoxethanol.

Super Clean, the purple stuff, will strip plastic and metal beautifully. No issues. Have not tested on resin...

Canadian Tire has it, as does Walmart. Also any Autosense distributor...

I buy Simple Green at Canadian Tire and have seen it in Walmart as well. There are diluted ones and none. Buy the automotive version and you're golden. Cleans paint off nicely. I also put some in my ultrasonic cleaner with resin models to clean them before painting. Quick, easy and I can be doing something while the machine buzzes.

Thanks for the tip I havent tried Canadian Tire. I looked at RONA/Home Depot/and Walmart and all I could find is a knock off product that didnt work too well. I am going to get some of the automotive version.

I tried the version of Off Deep Woods that my local Walmart carries and didn't have nearly the success as OP. My metal test minis did see some paint come off after scrubbing but the majority of it was unharmed. These were minis that had different brands of miniature paints. The plastics fared a bit better, but not by much. For the price I'd rather stick with Simple Green, Superclean, LA Awesome, Dawn Power Dissolver, Citristrip (for metals), and acetone (metals). Maybe its a different formula up North.
