Alright, so I recently posted some of my tacticals that I turned into sternguard, and got a lot of great help! So thank you to the dakka community!
Before I go further in converting another 14 sternguard to combi-meltas, I wanted to see how my first finished one would be received, and wondering if it needed to be altered or straight up scrapped.

Background: I started with regular tactical marines, added many purity seals as well as banners (this group has most of them on their backs). I then painted the helmets white and have been putting dark blue laurels on their helmets.

Now, for this sternguard vet: I was thinking of purchasing about 15 (give or take a few) combi-meltas for my ice fists vets (blue crimson fists). Cheapest I could find was on ebay, and it was about $5 including shipping per combi-melta, which would be about $75 (depending on how many I actually purchased), and for me that is too much for right now. So I got out my Codex, flipped to the showcase page and studied the sternguard with combi melta. After some frustration and a good portion of my night, I finally got one that was decent.

So I ask, what do you think of it? How could I improve it? Are my grey stuff skills lacking and I should just scrap it and wait till I have enough cash? And would you allow them at a tournament in your FLGS?

Again, thank you in advance for your responses!

Its a good convertion. I wouldn't mind playing against you. I don't think anyone would hassle you over that,

It is exactly similar to green stuff, I believe even made by the same company, except, of course, it is black and white, which makes grey.

That looks pretty good. Have you filed off the end to make it as flat as possible? If not, I would do that, followed by painting or drilling out the barrel (make sure the grey stuff is completely set). Also, if you are doing a whole heap of them, try and punch the shape out of a flat (but thick enough) piece of grey stuff. Hollow brass tubing can be purchased pretty cheap that would probably be the right size for this. That would give you uniform sides.

Good luck!

The melta ammo compartment looks awesome! I agree with M4cr0Dutch though, file the nozzle a bit to smooth it out and it would definitely stand up to the 3-foot test as being an actual GW part! Nice work.

if anyone has a problem with it, insult their mother, their sexuality, and tell them to GTFO. It may not be the most perfect sculpt job, but, you tried, its a good accurate representation, its WYSIWYG... point them to "sprue crons" and ask them to play those guys if they think your combi weapon isn't very cool. (not knocking sprue crons, just saying anyone having a problem with your conversion deserves derision and a swift kick to the testes) (disclaimer: i do not actually advise any of the following)
