Hello everyone,

I have just been recently introduced to 40K. Since I will be spectating and possibly playing my first game tomorrow, I needed to learn more about the game. After learning a bit, I quickly became intrigued by the stories behind it all. With the help of my boyfriend, I quickly learned that I connected with the Eldar the most. I also love to draw, and the lore along with the combination of their aesthetics and functionally really won me over.

For the past three days I've been drawing Eldar Titans, and I think they look pretty nice but they could be better. Most of you out there probably have more than three days experience with all of this, and would be able to help me figure out how I can improve more than I could by myself. Any comments are welcome, but I would really appreciate if you left suggestions whether you liked the sketch or not.

Directly elow, I will include bother the unshaded and shaded version....Mostly because I tend to screw things up when I try to shade it.
~ [Edit]~ If you keep scrolling down, you can see more of my work. I'd appreciate if you could spend some time looking through my efforts. Again feel free to comment.

First, here is the unshaded sketch:

And lastly, the shaded version:

Thanks. I just cant stop drawing these guys.

Just tonight, I decided to attempt to delve into the 3D world, and make some Eldar terrain. However....since I don't have any foam board or wood or any of those fancy materials, I am stuck with making paper models for now. It has the potential to look cool and function as actual terrain (if I can make it sturdy enough), but Ill probably need to fail at the first few tries before that happens. I'm pretty sure if my glue hadn't gone missing, I would have been able to do more complicated things. So yeah, I couldnt glue ANYTHING together =/. I had to rely on tab and slot placement to hold everything together. Anywho, here is what I have so far. Tell me what you think.

Please comment. Good, bad or ugly, I welcome it all.

I absolutely love it. Your designs are very Eldar and I prefer *most* of the Titan to the usual ones, it must be said. However, there is one thing you're missing out - triangle heads are very much a part of Eldar aesthetic. It's a deliberate design choice by the Studio that extends throughout the range, and without it. that head sitting atop an otherwise very obviously Eldar body sticks out like a sore thumb.

I love the way that head looks - but Eldar isn't the place for it.

Ah. Thanks a lot for telling me this. I used some Phantom Titan models as a guide to draw the head. I wasn't sure whether to do the conical heads or this style. Now I know for sure and will incorporate this info into my next sketch. I am curious now though. Would this head belong to any race? Or does it just not belong anywhere?

It doesn't exactly fit with any of the established Codex armies. However it wouldn't look out of place in 40k in general...perhaps on Tau auxiliaries or an Inquisitor's "exotic" alien henchman.

Hmm. That's good to know. I used your tip about the head to draw my next Titan. The head is really hard to get right, but I think I did an better job than the last sketch. Trying to make things more dynamic, you can see this Titan has probably sensed something approaching from behind and has now turned to attack the enemy. The weapons are also very fun to draw. I usually only draw sword and the like, but this Titan stuff is really growing on me. Maybe I'll try adding ink and color to this one.

Thanks Super Ready. I couldn't have done it without your help. I really like how this one turned out. I'm working on adding other units to create a sort of battle scene. I'd like my titan to actually be shooting at something. Progress should be up by tomorrow. :3

Train rides are definitely the best place to draw. I have begun creating my Eldar army, and there's a good chance they will be fighting Orks. This will be an extreme challenge because I have a very organic art style, and Orks are...well...quite different. Not bad or anything, but I'm not good at drawing very angular things. I hope it turns out well though. :3

Here is the progress I today. Any comments are welcome. This is going to be a massive piece when I'm done.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my lil' ol' thread.

What's that other thing there? Is the whole thing to scale and so would that be a Wraith Knight? Or is just another titan off in the distance?

Either way, very well done. You're drawing's coming together in leaps and bounds.

It's supposed to be a Wraithknight stepping on and crushing some sort of tank. As far as scale, it's probably not right, but I can always scale up/down when I make the digital version.

So, my boyfriend loves Orks. Ive been attempting to draw them lately, but until today everything have turned out as failures. Im used to drawing Eldar, so Orks seemed so random and hey didn't make much sense to me. Then he explained to me why they look the way they do, and how I should approach my sketches. His advice really helped, and I came up with this beauty. Let me know what you think. :3

Hello again everyone,

I would have colored the above line art last night, but I saved it in the wrong format and my hand was cramping too much to retrace my steps. However, I was able to fix everything this morning and add the base colors for Mr. Ork here. It's my first Ork drawing, so if any of the colors look strange, out of place or missing, please feel free to let me know. I'd love for the finished piece to look really cool. Here we go.

Ork Tank Busta Base Colors:

You can find the line art above this post.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I planned on taking a break, and shading my Ork later, but as usual I just couldn't put it down. I still have A LOT of shading experience to acquire, but I've been getting better picture by picture. I have a particularly difficult time shading metals which appears quite a bit here. Please note the weapon is not shaded. I am just not satisfied with how it turned out. Shading it and then changing the whole thing later would just be a waste of time. If any Ork lover (or anyone else) could lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much. Let me know what you think, what you'd change, anything thing at all. Enjoy. :3

Since I have today and tomorrow off work, I decided to have a drawing marathon. I'm still on my Ork streak and have decided to create a Mekboy. One of you reading this will hopefully "see what I did there". It's not complete, so it's just phase one of my line art. The sketch was getting a bit too rough for my tastes, so I went ahead and cleaned it up early. The chest and legs still need some work, so Ill be doing those next. My ultimate goal is to create a battle scene featuring the Orks and the Eldar, so I should get in as much experience as possible. If you guys have any suggestions as to what I should draw next, let me know. I love challenges. :3

Those are some sick drawings, I love them! The eldar imho look a little too cartoony in the first 2 drawings, but still they look amazing! I wish I could draw like that!

Thanks for being honest, because I agree that the first two eldar pics were not the best. But hey, It's a great feeling to see your work improve over time.

Hmmm....Where have I seen that head before... It seems so...familiar...
Spoiler:

As for the picture itself....I think the arm is amazingly fitting. I love the Wrench motif on the back-pack generator thingy and the alligator clip attached to the drill. The drill itself could use some work. It's not quite enough clunky looking as well I'm a bit confused why he has a drill. Often meks have souped-up guns, but maybe this guy likes melee. That's fine.
The mek is a bit off-balanced. He's got a whole bunch of bionics on the right side of his body, but the left side of his body is untouched. Perhaps a leg should be replaced with a limb similar to the arm. The arm isn't quite noisy enough to look ork constructed. There need to be more wires, plates, or glyphs on the thing, but is a great basis. Perhaps giving him a back-pack with tools popping out of it, or possibly a utility belt or something of the sort.

TL-DR: Da mek boy needs more bitz an' gubbins! Wut self-respectin' mek would be caught ded wiffout 'is toolz or someffing blastier den a slugga?

Your orks are pretty cool looking, but there's a detail that you might want to incorporate into them (especially since it is possible at this scale). Orks don't have hair, but they appreciate the appearance of topknots and other 'tough looking' hair styles.

They emulate this hair by using 'hair squigs' (yes, really) which they clamp (or tie, or glue, or suture, or whatever) to their head (or face, for beard squigs). The squigs have long, flowing gill filaments which the orks style like hair.

What this means, for your artwork:

Hair squigs don't have to have the normal distribution that you might expect with actual hair. The ork can be completely bald but have a topknot, and no stubble.

Hair squigs can be of a wide variety of colors (you could have different colored hair and beard squigs, for instance).

You can even place a couple of eyes (or even a mouth) in an ork hair-do.

Yes, the member above you, ShadowMageAlpha, mentioned this to me as well. That decision was made because I am a sucker for pretty guys with long hair >.<. And I usually draw, well, pretty dudes with long hair. Orks are waaaaay different that my regular style. I let my stubbornness get the better of me.

I really appreciate your comments though. I will make my next Orks a lot more tough looking, more guns, more blasty bits, not so clean cut. It's funny though because since this is a new art style for me I take a step back, look at the whole picture and go, "Oh wow, he's got so much asymmetry here and there's strange weapons and pieces over there. This is perfect!". Then you guys with an eye for Orks tell me how it is. I can see I've got a lot to learn, and I'm glad everyone has been so helpful along my journey.

Thanks everyone

Okari~

Okari, let me welcome you to our little house of weird and extraordinary

You really have some talent, as capturing orkish spirit so fast and so good is no easy feat

I especially liked the squiggy companion of the tank busta. Actually I loved him so much that I ask your permission to sculpt him some day

Keep drawing, and I'd personally like to see your own army ;:

Wow, it has been a while since I've posted something new on this thread. I am in the middle of the last semester of college, so my focus has been elsewhere. During my absence however, I have continued to doodle 40k stuff and I even played my first game as Eldar against Orks. It was way more exciting than I thought it would be. So in celebration of this battle I have been working on an "Aerial Encounter" piece featuring Eldar and Ork characters. It's still not done, so please feel free to suggest anything you like. Enjoy, comment and critique as you please.

Thanks for stopping by!
