Title says it all. Can you take detachments from both books?

no, its a supplement to the eldar codex, so still codex eldar and you cant ally with your own codex.

The new Tau Farsight supplement allows you to be battle brothers with codex Tau. Why is the Eldar supplement different?.

Because it doesn't say anything about it.

Either it's a separate codex, in which case it can't ally with anyone (since it doesn't appear on the ally matrix) or it's a Codex: Eldar, in which case you use the ally matrix as normal.

The new Tau Suppleent has a specific note about counts as codex Tau for allies purposes with the exception that it may also ally with Codex Tau as battlebrothers.

Sadly Iyanden lacks this note and therefore doesnt have permission.

Unless, of course, the supplement has a specific note saying that the Farsight Enclave and Codex: TE are battle brothers.

You can have 5 riptides now.

The bit that would usually stop this (and that it seems the Farsight supplement overrules) is on page 109 of the rulebook. Allied Detachments, bold text:
"your army can include one allied detachment for each primary detachment in your army... (blah blah blah) ...this must be a different codex to the one used for the primary detachment".

"Hard pressed on my right. My centre is yielding. Impossible to manoeuvre. Situation excellent. I am attacking." - General Ferdinand Foch
